The 49ers waived Jefferson on Tuesday. Jefferson is headed to waivers despite having just signed with the team last week. The 26-year-old spent time on Arizona's practice squad and active roster last season but didn't record any touches across his two appearances. He previously spent time with the Lions and will now look to catch on with another team.

Signs with 49ers

Jefferson signed with the 49ers on Thursday. The running back played in two regular-season games for the Cardinals last year and a total of nine across the previous four regular seasons with the Lions. San Francisco's running back depth chart is led by Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James and Kaelon Black.

Joins Cardinals' practice squad

Jefferson signed with the Cardinals' practice squad Wednesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. The Oregon State product has quickly rejoined Arizona's practice squad after being cut Monday. Jefferson has appeared in two games for the Cardinals this season, recording no offensive statistics while playing just six special-teams snaps.
