WATCH: Keith Scott May Not Have Been Pointing a Gun, Police Chief Says

Keith Lamont Scott was reported by family to have been reading a book when he was shot dead by police in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 20.

Officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant, but Scott was not the man who they were attempting to take into custody.

Police told the newspaper Scott was armed and a gun was recovered at the scene by detectives.

A Facebook live video was posted after the shooting by Scott’s daughter, Lyric Scott. She said he did not have a gun.

Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney said in the above news conference that a video he reviewed doesn’t prove that Keith Lamont Scott was pointing a gun when he was shot. He stated:

What I can tell you that I saw…the video does not give me absolute definitive visual evidence that would confirm that a person is pointing a gun. I did not see that in the videos that I reviewed.

A cell phone video filmed by Rakeyia Scott, wife of the slain Keith Lamont Scott, does not show the shooting of her husband but shows the moments leading up to it. Gunfire is heard on camera:

The shooting was the subject of riots that occurred Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the city. You can watch videos from the scene below:
