Back with Steelers' practice squad
The Steelers signed Shampklin to their practice squad Wednesday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. The Harvard product was dropped from Pittsburgh's active roster Monday to make room for running back Jonathan Ward. However, the Steelers have decided to bring Shampklin back to the team's practice squad now that he's cleared waivers. Shampklin has appeared in three games for the Steelers this season, logging 17 rushing yards on six carries.
Dropped by Pittsburgh
The Steelers waived Shampklin on Monday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Shampklin had appeared in three games for the Steelers this season before being waived Monday, recording 17 rushing yards on six carries. In a corresponding move, Pittsburgh signed Jonathan Ward off their practice squad, so he's expected to serve as the team's No. 3 running back behind Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren in Monday night's matchup against the Giants.
Inactive for SNF
Shampklin (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday Night Football against the Jets. The running back played on just four offensive snaps in the Steelers' Week 6 win over the Raiders. Shampklin also has just six carries for 17 yards and no scores on the year. Pittsburgh's top two running backs, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, are healthy, and Jonathan Ward has been elevated from the practice squad.
Nonfactor in win
Shampklin rushed once for minus-2 yards in Sunday's 32-13 win over the Raiders. With teammate Jaylen Warren returning from a two-game absence, Shampklin played just four of the Steelers' 63 offensive snaps Sunday. In three games, the 24-year-old Harvard product has totaled just six rushing attempts for 17 yards, keeping him out of fantasy consideration with a healthy group of running backs in Pittsburgh headlined by Najee Harris and Warren. The Steelers will host the Jets in Week 7.
Tallies 14 rushing yards
Shampklin rushed four times for 14 yards during Sunday's 20-17 loss to Dallas. Shampklin was elevated to the Steelers' 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's primetime matchup since Jaylen Warren (knee) and Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) were unavailable. However, Shampklin played just 11 offensive snaps and didn't generate much production. He'll likely remain on the practice squad in Week 6 if Warren or Patterson are cleared to return.
Gets bumped up
Shampklin was promoted to the 53-man roster from the Steelers' practice squad Wednesday. Shampklin will receive a chance with the active roster due to Jaylen Warren (knee) and Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) tending to injuries that currently have them listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. The Harvard product was elevated for Week 4 and saw 12 snaps on offense against the Colts, which included one five-yard carry. If Warren and Patterson miss Week 5, Shampklin will be the Steelers' No. 2 man in the backfield behind Najee Harris.
Reverts to practice squad
Shampklin reverted to the Steelers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. The running back was elevated to the active roster with Jaylen Warren (knee) out and played on 13 of 70 offensive snaps, behind Najee Harris' 48 but ahead of Cordarrelle Patterson's nine, though Patterson suffered an ankle injury during the game. Shampklin carried the ball once for five yards.
Joins active roster
The Steelers elevated Shampklin to their active roster Saturday, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. The Harvard product could be in line to make his NFL debut Sunday. Expect Shampklin to serve as a depth piece in Pittsburgh's running back room while also contributing on special teams in Week 4, if he suits up.
Gets another opportunity
Shampklin signed with the Steelers' practice squad Wednesday. Shampklin was with Pittsburgh during training camp, but he was ultimately waived on cutdown day. His addition to the practice squad comes as the team placed Boston Scott on the injured list, so he'll help boost the organizational depth at running back while Scott is sidelined.
