In the early hours leading into Sunday morning, Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray became the No. 1 trend on Twitter after a video of what appeared to be a woman giving him oral sex was published from his official Instagram account. Users online could not believe what they saw on his social media account.
While shocked reactions filled Twitter’s timeline, the 23-year-old, who was drafted into the NBA as the No. 7 overall pick in 2016, finally became aware of the situation. The University of Kentucky alum promptly deleted the video from his Instagram stories before deleting his entire account, for which he had 422.5K followers.
Before his account went dark, however, a series of extremely random posts were shared via Murray’s Instagram stories, which made the whole situation even more strange.
At around 3 a.m. ET, Murray sent a message from his Twitter account to explain the NSFW video. He tweeted, “First and foremost I would like to apologize to my fans. My account has been hacked, currently working on the issue. Thanks.”
Whether or not users online believe Murray, the fact that this shocking video appeared on his verified account during the NBA’s suspension due to coronavirus caused him to be roasted with jokes on Twitter. One person said, “Jamal Murray not getting paid to play basketball rn so he resorted to being a Pornstar LMFAOOOOOO.”
One largely-shared sentiment on Twitter was the wish they had never watched the video in the first place, and it’s likely Murray feels the exact same way.
Murray Previously Showed off a New Hobby on Social Media Amid Self-Quarantine
Prior to the controversial video, Murray appeared to be handling his forced time off from the court by exploring his skills on the piano. On March 17, a week into the NBA’s suspension from coronavirus, he played a series of well-known songs for his fans.
Murray videotaped himself switching off between the Harry Potter theme song and the Star Wars soundtrack.
One Member of the Denver Nuggets Team Tested Positive for COVID-19
On March 19, the Denver Nuggets announced that a member of their team tested positive for coronavirus. They did not reveal a name but said this person started experiencing symptoms on Monday, and “is currently under the care of team medical staff and in self-isolation.”
As reported by USA Today, the person was tested through the state healthcare system, not a private entity, as many NBA players have been since Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert tested positive, and the entire NBA was shut down on March 10.
The Nuggets announced they were closing their facilities for two weeks amid the coronavirus outbreak. As of March 21, the total number of patients that tested positive for coronavirus in the state of Colorado was 364, with a death toll of five.
As for members of the NBA that have tested positive for COVID-10, in addition to Gobert, the list includes his Jazz teammate Donovan Mitchell, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant and three of his teammates, Pistons forward Christian Wood, and two members of the Los Angeles Lakers.
