Latest Kings News
Devin Carter : Undergoes successful surgery
The Kings announced Thursday that Carter underwent successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee reports. Carter sustained his left shoulder injury during a pre-draft workout, and the Kings were aware of the issue when selecting him with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The Kings announced Thursday that they'll update his status in approximately six months, so the 22-year-old will presumably miss at least the first few months of the 2024-25 season. However, Carter is expected to make a full recovery with no long-term concerns.
Keon Ellis : Drops 30 points in Summer League
Ellis tallied 30 points (12-21 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block over 33 minutes in Wednesday's 91-90 loss to the Warriors in the California Classic. Ellis closed the 2023-24 season in the starting lineup for Sacramento, but the Kings opted to give Ellis more time to refine his game in the Summer League. Over three games in the California Classic, Ellis averaged 20.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists over 29.0 minutes.
Jordan Ford : With Sacramento in Summer League
Ford (hip) suited up for the Kings in games Saturday and Sunday in the California Classic Summer League, totaling 39 points, six assists, six rebounds and three steals between wins over the Lakers and Heat. While playing under a two-way deal with Sacramento in 2023-24, Ford made just six appearances at the NBA level and was sidelined for the G League Stockton Kings' final game of the season due to a hip injury. He looks to be back to full health while playing for the Kings in the Summer League, but the 26-year-old guard isn't currently under contract heading into the 2024-25 season. The Kings declined his $1.87 million qualifying offer June 29, making Ford an unrestricted free agent.
Devin Carter : Having shoulder surgery
Carter is expected to undergo surgery on his left shoulder next week, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The procedure puts Carter's availability for the start of the regular season up in the air. Carter sustained a left shoulder injury during a pre-draft workout, but the issue didn't deter Sacramento from selecting the Providence product with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Still, the injury is severe enough to require Carter to go under the knife. As Charania notes, Carter is expected to make a full recovery with no long-term concerns, however, he may not be ready in time for the regular season.
Jordan McLaughlin : Gets one-year deal from Sacramento
McLaughlin agreed Sunday with the Kings on a one-year contract, Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento reports. The 28-year-old spent the past five seasons with Minnesota and averaged 3.5 points, 2.0 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 11.2 minutes while shooting a career-best 47.2 percent from three-point range in 56 games in 2023-24. McLaughlin gives Sacramento an experienced reserve option at point guard behind De'Aaron Fox, though he won't necessarily be a part of head coach Mike Brown's rotation every night if the Kings staff feels that rookie first-round Devin Carter is capable of initiating the offense when Fox is off the floor.
DeMar DeRozan : Set to join Sacramento
DeRozan will sign a three-year, $76 million contract with the Kings after Sacramento agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Bulls and the Spurs, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN of ESPN reports. The deal will be a three-team agreement, and while it appears the Kings will win this trade on paper, they will also send Harrison Barnes to San Antonio and Chris Duarte, along with two second-round picks and cash, to Chicago. The presence of DeRozan should make the Kings a true contender in the Western Conference, as he'll form a Big Three with De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. DeRozan averaged 24.0 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds during the 2023-24 campaign across 79 regular-season appearances.
Devin Carter : Won’t play in Summer League
Carter has been ruled out for Summer League play due to a left shoulder injury, Sean Cunningham of Fox 40 Sacramento reports. Carter was selected by the Kings with the No. 13 overall pick in this year's draft, but he suffered a left shoulder injury during a pre-draft workout and is being evaluated by the team's medical staff. While he won't be in action this summer, it's not yet clear whether his injury will linger once training camp begins this fall.
Alex Len : Sticking in Sacramento
Len intends to sign a one-year. $3.3 million contract with the Kings, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Len will return for a fourth consecutive season in Sacramento, where he'll likely operate as the primary backup to Domantas Sabonis. Len averaged 2.5 points and 2.7 rebounds across 9.3 minutes per game in 2023 and should remain firmly out of fantasy consideration when Sabonis is healthy.
