The Bucs signed Knue to a reserve/future contract Tuesday. Knue was elevated from the practice squad ahead of last Sunday's wild-card playoff game against Washington, but he was deemed inactive for the contest. Knue spent all of last offseason with Tampa Bay after signing with the Bucs as an undrafted rookie out of Eastern Michigan. He'll get another chance to earn a roster spot this coming offseason.
Knue reverted to the Buccaneers' practice squad Saturday, per the NFL's transaction log. Despite being elevated to the Bucs' 53-man roster Saturday, Knue was inactive for Sunday's wild-card game against the Commanders. The 25-year-old wide receiver signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in late April and is a candidate to be signed by the Buccaneers to a reserve/future contract.
The Buccaneers elevated Knue from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Stroud signed with the Buccaneers in late April as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan. He wasn't able to make the Bucs' 53-man roster at the conclusion of training camp in late August, but he did manage to sign with the practice squad in early October. He wasn't elevated to the active roster during the regular season, but he has a chance to make his NFL postseason debut against the Commanders on Sunday.
Knue signed with the Buccaneers' practice squad Monday, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Knue spent training camp with Tampa Bay and will now get another opportunity with the franchise after they placed Cody Thompson (shoulder) on the practice squad injured list. The Eastern Michigan product had nine catches on 13 targets for 86 yards and a touchdown with the team during the preseason.
Knue was waived by the Buccaneers on Sunday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Knue joined the Bucs in April as an undrafted free agent out of Eastern Michigan. He accumulated nine catches on 13 targets for 86 yards and one touchdown across Tampa Bay's three preseason games, but he will not make the team's 53-man roster. Assuming he clears waivers, Knue may stick around and sign with the Bucs on the practice squad or look for opportunities elsewhere.
Knue secured five of six targets for 33 yards and returned one kickoff for 20 yards in the Buccaneers' 20-7 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night. Knue tied Cody Thompson for the team lead in receptions and targets while checking in second to his teammate in receiving yards. Knue now has seven receptions across his first two preseason games and has gained 50 yards on two kickoff returns, but he may still have a difficult time latching on to the final 53-man roster unless he puts on a spectacular showing in Friday's preseason finale against the Dolphins.
Knue secured two of five targets for 29 yards, returned one kickoff for 30 yards and ran back two punts for 22 yards in the Buccaneers' 17-14 preseason win over the Bengals on Saturday night. The undrafted free agent had a chance to show off his versatility while tying for the team lead in targets. Knue's usage as a returner was particularly noteworthy, considering he ran back all of one kickoff during his six-year college tenure at Eastern Michigan. Knue appears to almost certainly be a practice-squad candidate at best due to the Buccaneers' deep receiver corps, but the coaching staff is apparently intrigued by his talent given the amount of opportunity he saw in his first preseason game.
