The Vikings agreed to terms with Thomas on Wednesday. The 29-year-old appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the Bucs last season and recorded 14 tackles (eight solo) as a key member of Tampa Bay's special-teams units. He logged 388 snaps in kick coverage and just 45 on defense. He'll fill a similar role with the Vikings.
Thomas is seeing reps at nickelback, strong safety and free safety early in training camp, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. Thomas signed with the Buccaneers this offseason after spending the last three seasons with the Texans, arriving with extensive experience playing the slot and 22 career starts overall. Thomas has already recorded two interceptions in the first three days of camp, and head coach Todd Bowles is taking advantage of the six-year veteran's versatility by having him cross-train at three positions in order to maximize his value to the secondary.
Thomas (hamstring) is signing a one-year contract with the Buccaneers on Monday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports. Thomas spent the last three seasons in Houston, with his 2023 campaign cut short after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 14. The veteran corner is expected to compete for the nickel job and contribute on special teams, according to Auman.
