Officially placed on IR
The Bengals placed Brown (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Brown tore his patellar tendon during the Bengals' Week 3 loss to the Commanders, an injury that requires season-ending surgery. The 2015 seventh-round pick will shift his focus to rehab and recovery as he looks to be fully healthy for the 2025 season. Amarius Mims will serve as the Bengals' starting right tackle moving forward.
Needs season-ending surgery
Brown will require season-ending surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon suffered in Monday's 38-33 loss to the Commanders, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Brown is expected to make a full recovery from surgery and return to action for the start of the 2025 campaign. With Brown headed for injured reserve, the Bengals to turn to their first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, Amarius Mims, at right tackle. Brown signed with the Bengals in the spring on a one-year contract to serve as a predecessor to Mims, but the veteran may be in search of a new home in 2025 once he's fully healthy.
Carted off Monday
Brown suffered an apparent knee injury during Monday's game against the Commanders and had to be carted off, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. The starting right tackle was grabbing his right knee, per Jhabvala. The injury gives the Bengals' first-round pick, Amarius Mims, a chance to come in and play a significant role for the first time in his NFL career.
Returning to practice
Brown (undisclosed) practiced Monday for the first time and will likely be the starting right tackle with rookie first-rounder Amarius Mims (pectoral muscle) out several weeks, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. Mims' absence gives the Bengals very little proven tackle depth in the event of another injury, though Brown seems unconcerned about his late start. "This is Year 10 for me," Brown said. "I've got a lot of reps under my belt already. I think I kind of know how the game is played and how it needs to be played."
Comes off NFI list
Brown, who'd been on the active/non-football injury list, passed a physical Sunday and has been cleared to practice. Brown was placed on the active NFI list July 23 due to an undisclosed issue, but he's since returned to full health. The veteran lineman is slated to compete for a role as the Bengals' starting right tackle in the 2024 campaign.
Lands on NFI list
The Bengals placed Brown (undisclosed) on the active/non-football Injury list Tuesday. Brown can be activated at any point throughout training camp once he is over his unspecified injury. After spending the last three seasons with the Patriots, Brown signed a one-year, $4.75 million contract with the Bengals in March of 2024, and he's slated to start at right tackle.
Practicing at minicamp
Brown (illness) participated in the initial practice of Cincinnati's mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Brown first worked at right tackle Tuesday, then handled some reps at right guard while Amarius Mims replaced him at the tackle stop. A 31-year-old veteran, Brown could be the favorite to start at right tackle over Mims, a rookie first-round pick, but the Bengals' offensive line could be at its best with both players finding a way to get reps.
Headed to Cincinnati
Brown is set to sign a one-year deal with the Bengals, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports. By adding the 30-year-old -- who started at left tackle for the Patriots last season -- the Bengals have filled the void created by the free agent departure of Jonah Williams. Brown, who is listed at 6-foot-8, 370 pounds, gives his new team a versatile lineman who can work as a bookend tackle opposite 6-foot-8, 345-pounder Orlando Brown.
