Urshela is starting at third base and batting eighth in Friday's game against the Twins. Urshela will return to the starting lineup Friday after sitting Thursday against the Guardians. Since July 1, Urshela has slashed .273/.301/.424 with two home runs and 11 RBI over 70 plate appearances.
Meadows (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment soon, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Meadows was cleared to run the bases Wednesday and came out of it well, so he will continue his progression with more running Saturday. It's possible he'll be ready to play in rehab games after that. Meadows has been shelved for most of July with a right hamstring strain but could be tracking toward a return in early August.
Mize (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. It will be his first time trying things from the bump since he went down with a left hamstring strain in late June. Mize will need a little time to be built back up since he's already been sidelined a month, so he's likely several weeks away from a return.
Greene was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a right hamstring strain. Greene uncharacteristically was held out of the lineup Tuesday against a right-handed pitcher and didn't pop up in the Tigers' starting nine Friday. It's now known that he's dealing with a strained hamstring that will require an IL stint. Per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic the strain is considered small, which could indicate that Greene won't miss much more time than the minimum 10 days. In the meantime, Mark Canha, Bligh Madris and Ryan Vilade could see more action in the outfield.
Greene is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins. Greene isn't part of the starting lineup for the third time in seven games despite right-hander Pablo Lopez being on the mound for Minnesota. As an everyday player for Detroit, Greene's string of absences is unusual and it doesn't appear he's dealing with an injury. Mark Canha, Matt Vierling and Wenceel Perez will fill the outfield from left to right Friday.
Urshela is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Twins. Urshela is absent from the Tigers' starting nine for a second consecutive game, yielding to Bligh Madris at first base. Urshela went hitless in seven at-bats during the Tigers' recent four-game series with the Guardians.
Holton worked as Detroit's opener against Cleveland on Thursday and allowed two hits while striking out two batters over two scoreless innings. Holton served as the Tigers' opener for the third time this season and was effective in his two innings of work, giving up a pair of doubles but keeping the Guardians off the scoreboard. The southpaw extended his streak of scoreless outings to 12, and he's posted a 13:3 K:BB over 16 innings while notching two saves and two holds during that span. Overall, Holton has registered a 2.97 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB across 57.2 frames on the campaign.
Miller worked around a walk to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Guardians. He struck out one. Regular closer Jason Foley was used in the seventh inning of this bullpen game for Detroit, which set Miller up for his second save of the season. The veteran righty endured a rough patch in June but he's been much better this month, posting a 0.84 ERA across 10.2 innings. Foley is still the favorite for saves in Detroit, though Miller gives the Tigers another option when needed.
