After Monday's game against the Cardinals was postponed due to inclement weather, Maeda will start in Wednesday's contest, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. The Tigers will roll with Jack Flaherty in the first game Tuesday, while Matt Manning is pencilled in to start the second contest as the 27th man. Maeda holds an 0-1 record over five starts this season, posting a 5.96 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB over 22.2 frames.
The Tigers could call Manning up from Triple-A Toledo to start one game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Manning's next turn with Toledo falls Tuesday, so he's an obvious option to start for the big club instead. He's previously made two starts with the Tigers this season, giving up four runs while turning in a 10:6 K:BB over 12.1 innings.
Maeda and the Tigers won't play Monday against the Cardinals after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Detroit. The game will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader Tuesday. Jack Flaherty will stay on turn to start the first game Tuesday and Matt Manning is expected to come up to start the second game. Maeda's next start is being pushed back to Wednesday.
Rogers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored during Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Royals. Rogers' sixth-inning two-out blast spelled the end of the day for Kansas City starter Michael Wacha and provided the winning margin for the Tigers. It was just the second multi-hit game for Rogers, who raised his season average to .164 with two homers and three RBI.
Perez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Royals. Perez' first career dinger came in the first inning off Kansas City starter Michael Wacha and represented what turned out to be the game-winning blast for the Tigers. The rookie outfielder has started four of the past five games for the Tigers and has found himself consistently toward the top of the lineup, hitting in the three hole for the third consecutive start. Through 35 at-bats, Perez has 10 hits, including one double, two triples and a home run with five RBI and four runs scored.
Foley allowed one hit and one walk over one scoreless frame to earn the save Sunday against the Royals. He struck out two. Foley kept things interesting by allowing the first two batters to reach, but induced a ground out followed by two strikeouts to join four others with his league-leading ninth save in as many opportunities. The Tigers' closer lowered his ERA to 1.38 with a 1.23 WHIP and 13 strikeouts across 13 innings.
Skubal (4-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over seven innings against the Royals. He struck out six. Skubal began the day by allowing a leadoff double to Maikel Garcia followed by an RBI single by Bobby Witt, but the Royals were only able to muster two harmless singles and a walk the rest of the way. Skubal entered the contest with an ERA of 5.09 and only one win in eight decisions over 11 career appearances against Kansas City but quickly settled in to post his fourth start out of six this season in which he's allowed one or fewer runs with no more than five baserunners against. Skubal, whose strong outing dropped his season-long ERA to 1.72 with a 0.74 WHIP, will look to continue his early-season dominance into his next start, tentatively slated to take place in New York with a weekend matchup against the Yankees.
Faedo (2-1) tossed two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win Saturday against the Royals. After starter Casey Mize allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings, Faedo worked the sixth and seventh, and he continued to pitch well. The righty has a strong 2.55 ERA across 17.2 innings this season, and he's emerged as a capable long reliever for the Tigers. The role limits Faedo's upside, though he may be able to earn a few more wins here and there.
