The Phillies claimed Tarnok (hip) off waivers from Oakland on Saturday, reinstated him from the 60-day injured list, and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Tarnok has been on the injured list all season while recovering from a hip procedure he underwent in August. He began a rehab assignment in Triple-A on May 8, allowing 11 earned runs in just 7.1 innings. He'll remain in Triple-A upon making a full recovery and shifting to a new organization, though a drastic turnaround would likely be necessary before Tarnok spends any time in the Phillies' bullpen. Dylan Covey (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.
Hoffman earned the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Cardinals, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning. Hoffman continues to impress in a late-inning role with the Phillies -- he's allowed just one earned run in his last 19.1 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander's ERA is down to 1.09 on the year with a 0.97 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB across 24.2 innings. Hoffman's up to five saves with seven holds on the campaign.
Nola (7-2) earned the win Friday over the Cardinals, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out six. It was another strong outing from Nola, who held St. Louis to a pair of solo home runs in a winning effort. The 30-year-old right-hander has held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last four outings. Nola's ERA now sits at 3.03 on the year with a 1.03 WHIP and 71:22 K:BB across 12 starts (77.1 innings). He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week at home against the Brewers.
Schwarber went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, an additional RBI, a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the Giants. He got the Phillies started with an opposite-field homer off Kyle Harrison to lead off the first inning. Schwarber drove in a second run with a base hit in the eighth, extending Philadelphia's lead to 5-0. It's the third straight two-hit game for Schwarber -- he's gone 6-for-12 with two homers, four RBI and two steals in that span. He's boosted his slash line to .246/.369/.425 with 11 homers, 35 RBI and 43 runs scored across 55 games while going 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts this season.
Castellanos went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, a double and a second run scored in Wednesday's 6-1 win over San Francisco. Castellanos highlighted a three-hit day with a two-run homer off Kyle Harrison in the fifth inning, extending Philadelphia's lead to 4-0. It's just the second multi-hit game for Castellanos in his last nine contests -- he'd been stuck in a 5-for-32 slump prior to Wednesday. Overall, the 32-year-old outfielder is slashing .208/.271/.333 with seven homers, 28 runs scored and 24 RBI through 236 plate appearances this season.
Sanchez (3-3) earned the win Wednesday, holding the Giants to four hits and one walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out seven. It was another impressive effort from Sanchez, who's now held opponents to two runs or fewer in eight of his 11 starts this season. The 27-year-old left-hander lowered his ERA to 2.83 with a 1.39 WHIP and 56:20 K:BB across 60.1 innings. Sanchez will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently slated for early next week against Milwaukee.
Rojas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants. Rojas will hit the bench for the series finale after he had manned center field in each of the last four games while going 4-for-9 with two doubles, three stolen bases and one run. Cristian Pache will fill in for Rojas in center field.
