Ertz (concussion/shoulder) is expected to play Sunday versus the Eagles, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Ertz sustained a concussion during last Sunday's win against the Saints, and he was a limited participant while wearing a black, non-contact jersey for all three practices during Week 16 prep. Based on Schefter's report, the 34-year-old is trending toward being cleared by an independent neurologist in time for this weekend's divisional matchup. His official availability will be released 90 minutes prior to kickoff at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. If Ertz is active but still limited in any capacity, then No. 2 tight end John Bates could be in line for an increased role versus Washington.

Zach Ertz Latest News
Likely to be cleared for Sunday
Status in question for Week 16
Ertz (concussion/shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Eagles, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Ertz was diagnosed with a concussion during the Commanders' Week 15 win at New Orleans, but after missing Wednesday's practice, he was limited Thursday while wearing a black, non-contact jersey and maintained that activity level one day later. He still must gain clearance from an independent neurologist in order to suit up this weekend, and ultimately his status will be clarified about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, at the latest. John Bates and Ben Sinnott are on hand to cover for Ertz if the latter is inactive.
Limited in return to practice
Ertz (concussion) was a limited practice participant Thursday. After suffering a concussion this past Sunday at New Orleans, Ertz sat out Wednesday's session, but he was spotted in a black non-contact jersey Thursday, per Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site, before the team tagged the tight end as limited. Ertz thus is making his way through the protocol for head injuries, but he'll need to gain clearance from an independent neurologist in order to suit up Sunday against the Eagles.
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Ertz (concussion/rest) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice. Ertz sustained a concussion in the middle of the second quarter in this past Sunday's win at New Orleans. With no activity to speak of to begin Week 16 prep, he may be hard-pressed to make his way through all five phases of the protocol for head injuries ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. No matter, Ertz will have two more chances Thursday and Friday to mix into drills and potentially put himself on a path to play this weekend.
Concussion confirmed
Ertz won't return to Sunday's game in New Orleans due to a concussion. Ertz was checked for a head injury in the second quarter before the Commanders made a ruling on his availability for the rest of Week 15. He'll finish the contest with two catches (on two targets) for 25 yards. John Bates and Ben Sinnott will handle TE reps for Washington in the second half and potentially beyond that point.
Getting concussion check
Ertz is under evaluation for a head injury during Sunday's game at New Orleans. Prior to visiting the sideline tent in the middle of the second quarter, Ertz had hauled in both of his targets for 25 yards. John Bates and Ben Sinnott are the healthy tight ends on the Commanders' active roster.
Extends TD streak to three
Ertz caught three of six targets for 35 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 42-19 win over the Titans. Ertz extended Washington's lead to 35-13 with a four-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. He has scored in three consecutive games after recording only one touchdown through 10 games with the Commanders. Ertz will look to extend his touchdown streak in Week 15 against the Saints after a Week 14 bye.
Six catches, TD in loss
Ertz brought in six of eight targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders' 34-26 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Ertz finished the game tied with Noah Brown for the team lead in receptions while checking in second to his teammate in targets. The veteran tight end also found the end zone for the second straight game on a four-yard touchdown grab with just over three minutes remaining. Ertz has been a steady contributor throughout his first season in Washington, and he has at least seven targets in four of the last five games, including three straight, heading into a Week 13 home matchup against the Titans.
Another solid showing in loss
Ertz secured six of seven targets for 47 yards and a touchdown and added a two-point conversion catch in the Commanders' 26-18 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night. Ertz finished second across the board in receptions, receiving yards and targets to Austin Ekeler for the Commanders on the night. The veteran tight end was also on the receiving end of Jayden Daniels' only touchdown pass, a five-yard scoring grab with 28 seconds remaining that capped off a 15-play, 70-yard march. Ertz followed it up with an impressively difficult two-point conversion catch where he just managed to get two feet inbounds as he fell out of the back of the end zone, and he's now recorded at least four catches in five of his last six games. The steady veteran figures to remain a key target for Daniels during a Week 12 home matchup against the Cowboys on Sunday, Nov. 24.
