Bader went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Cubs. After singling and crossing the plate in the fifth and sixth innings, Bader got hit by a pitch to lead off the 11th and scored the winning run after a Francisco Lindor double. Bader has scored only once in his prior nine games while batting .143 (4-for-28), but overall the center fielder is having a solid first season with the Mets. Through 93 plate appearances, he's slashing .281/.312/.337 with a homer, five steals, seven RBI and 13 runs.
Megill (shoulder) threw 2.2 innings in a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out four without walking a batter. While the outing seems short, Megill threw 51 pitches in his second rehab appearance after firing two perfect innings for Binghamton on April 27. The Mets are moving to a six-man rotation in the short term by bringing up top prospect Christian Scott on Saturday, but Megill's current schedule has him in sync with Jose Butto rather than struggling fifth starter Adrian Houser. Megill will make at least one more rehab start, and his 10:0 K:BB through 4.2 innings against Double-A hitters suggests he's already 100 percent stuff-wise, but New York may not be a rush to activate the 28-year-old righty if there's no obvious vacancy for him in the rotation.
Houser did not factor into the decision against the Cubs on Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out two. Houser held the Cubs to one run through his first four innings before giving up a three-run homer to Christopher Morel in the fifth. While the Mets would rally for a win in extra innings, saving Houser from a third straight loss, it was another subpar outing from the 31-year-old right-hander. Houser's yet to record an out in the sixth inning this year while posting an ugly 8.16 ERA with a 1.85 WHIP and 6.28 BB/9 -- well up from his career average of 3.68. With Christian Scott, the Mets' top pitching prospect, poised to join the rotation this weekend and Tylor Megill (shoulder) working his way back from injury, Houser's starting job could soon be in jeopardy.
Lindor (illness) went 2-for-3 with a pair of two-run doubles and a run scored in Thursday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Cubs. Lindor was held out of the lineup Thursday after departing Wednesday's contest with an illness. However, he'd come off the bench as a pinch hitter for Joey Wendle in the sixth inning, pulling a two-run double to cut the Mets' deficit to 5-4. Lindor would then deliver his biggest hit so far this season in the 11th, doubling down the left-field line to drive in two more and give New York a 7-6 walk-off victory. Lindor's struggles early this year have been well documented, though he's starting to show signs of turning things around at the plate -- the 30-year-old shortstop's gone 9-for-29 with three doubles and three home runs in his last eight contests. Lindor's now slashing .207/.287/.380 through 136 plate appearances with five home runs, 17 runs scored, 15 RBI and four stolen bases.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Thursday that Raley (elbow) is no longer on track to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "We're going to take it slow [with Raley]," Mendoza said. Raley was placed on the shelf April 21 with left elbow inflammation, and while Mendoza didn't indicate that the southpaw has experienced any setbacks since being shut down, he doesn't seem to be progressing as quickly as anticipated, either. He'll be sent in for further imaging in the coming days as a precaution, and he could start ramping up his throwing program thereafter. Raley was one of the Mets' top setup men in 2023 and had gotten off to a strong start to 2024 before landing on the IL, striking out nine over seven scoreless innings while allowing just five baserunners and collecting four holds and one win.
Lindor (illness) is out of the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Cubs. Lindor was removed from Wednesday's 1-0 loss due to an illness and will now miss his first start of the season Thursday. He'll hope to be ready for Friday's series opener in Tampa Bay. Joey Wendle will fill in for Lindor at shortstop.
Butto (0-2) took the loss against the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six batters over six innings. Butto pitched well in the outing, notching his third quality start of the campaign and racking up 15 swinging strikes. However, he was outshined by impressive rookie Shota Imanaga, who had another dazzling performance with seven scoreless frames. Despite the loss, Wednesday's effort should continue to keep Butto's name on the minds of fantasy managers who are looking to improve their rotation. Though the right-hander doesn't have overpowering stuff, he's impressed so far this season, posting a 2.57 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 31:14 K:BB over 28 innings.
