Mitchell recorded a 36-yard reception on his only target in the Colts' 38-30 win over the Titans on Sunday. The speedy rookie finished second on the team in receiving yards despite the modest total as he filled the perimeter role normally belonging to the sidelined Alec Pierce (concussion). Mitchell's 36-yard reception in the latter portion of the second quarter helped set up a Matt Gay field goal and gave Mitchell, who hadn't recorded a reception in the previous two games, his fourth catch of 20-plus yards on the campaign. If Pierce is unable to clear concussion protocol in time for a Week 17 road matchup against the Giants, Mitchell will remain a boom-or-bust option against a secondary that's given up some big plays this season.

Big gain on one catch Sunday
Likely to see expanded role
With Alec Pierce (concussion) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, Mitchell is expected to see an expanded offensive role, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports. Sunday will mark Pierce's first absence of the season, though he did miss nearly half of last week's loss to the Broncos after being concussed. After Pierce was sidelined last week, Josh Downs and Mitchell were the biggest beneficiaries behind Michael Pittman in terms of playing time. It should be much of the same versus Tennessee, with Ashton Dulin mixing in for his blocking prowess. Mitchell and Anthony Richardson have yet to be on the same page -- or chapter -- this season, as Mitchell has failed to catch a single pass on six targets over the last two weeks despite increased reps. It's difficult to trust Mitchell for Week 16 fantasy lineups.
No receptions again in loss
Mitchell did not have a reception on four targets in Sunday's loss at Denver. He also threw a backwards pass that was returned for a touchdown (technically a fumble) on a trick play. Mitchell for a second consecutive game got significant playing time on offense (37 of the offense's 76 snaps), but failed to produce. He had no receptions on two targets in a Week 13 loss to the Patriots. Mitchell had a rapport with Anthony Richardson on deep passes earlier in the season, but they've failed to connect the past few weeks.
No catches despite larger role
Mitchell did not have a reception on two targets in Sunday's win at New England. He had his third drop of the season. It was a disappointing performance from Mitchell who moved into a larger role with Josh Downs out with a shoulder injury. Mitchell started opposite Michael Pittman in a two-receiver set to begin the game and played on 35 of the offense's 62 snaps and went out on 16 routes. Mitchell could get a chance to bounce back after Indy's bye in Week 14 as it's not immediately clear if Downs will be ready to return.
One catch in loss
Mitchell caught one of three targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Lions. Mitchell continued to operate as the Colts' No. 4 wide receiver, playing just 12 of 55 offensive snaps in the contest. The rookie wideout is simply not seeing enough volume in to sustain fantasy relevance on a consistent basis. Mitchell has recorded just 20 receptions for 254 yards through his first 12 games and has failed to find the end zone so far this season. The 22-year-old Texas product will be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes heading into a Week 13 matchup against the Patriots.
Has long reception in win
Mitchell had one reception for 33 yards on two targets and also had one carry for two yards in Sunday's win at the Jets. He had six targets last week with Michael Pittman out with a back injury, but saw a reduced role against the Jets. Mitchell played on just 12 of the offense's 70 snaps but has a rapport with Anthony Richardson on deep passes. He may not get many targets as the No. 3 or No. 4 receiver as long as the other receivers are healthy, but he's trending in the right direction.
Rise continues in Week 10 loss
Mitchell brought in all six targets for 71 yards in the Colts' 30-20 loss to the Bills on Sunday. He also committed a fumble but it was recovered by Indianapolis. The rookie set new career highs in receptions and receiving yards while also setting the pace in catches on the day for the Colts. Mitchell's target total was also the second highest of his young career, with the fact Michael Pittman (back) was inactive undoubtedly helping the second-round pick's cause. Mitchell should continue to see a progressively larger role through the second half of the season, although his outlook is arguably brighter with the more accurate Joe Flacco under center as opposed to the more erratic Anthony Richardson.
Expected to see elevated snaps
With Michael Pittman (back) ruled out, Mitchell is expected to see elevated offensive snaps in Sunday's game against the Bills, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports. "He's improving, so looking forward to him playing this week," coach Shane Steichen said of Mitchell. The rookie played a season-low five offensive snaps in last Sunday night's loss to the Vikings, but he's expected to bump up the depth chart alongside Josh Downs and Alec Pierce, though Ashton Dulin will also see playing time as a plus blocker in the run game. Mitchell has big-play ability but has been unable to show it yet in the NFL, having failed to reach 40 receiving yards in any game this season.
One grab in loss
Mithcell caught his lone target for 22 yards in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Vikings. Mitchell played just five of the Colts' 54 offensive snaps, the fewest of any Indianapolis wide receiver and his lowest snap share of the season. The rookie wideout isn't seeing enough playing time or opportunities to be relevant for fantasy purposes. Barring injuries to members of the Colts' receiving corps, Mitchell cannot be trusted to produce for fantasy heading into a Week 10 matchup against the Bills.
