Austin Johnson, Dustin’s Brother & Caddie: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Tall and athletic just like his PGA Tour-playing brother Dustin, Austin Johnson has been a fixture at golf tournaments for almost 2 years.

But not so much as a fan, but rather for work. Austin is Dustin’s caddie and the two have found great success as Dustin has climbed the world rankings.

The former college athlete understands the pressure of competitive sports and seems to be a perfect fit for his older brother.

Here’s what you need to know about Austin:

1. Austin Has Been Dustin’s Caddy Since Late 2013



Dustin Johnson announced in December 2013 that his brother Austin would become his full-time caddie.

Dustin joked in a story then on CBS Sports that he didn’t take a look at his brother’s resume, though he “probably wouldn’t have believed it, anyway.”

Austin replaced former caddie Bobby Brown.

2. The Combo Won Almost Immediately Together

Austin had been on the bag for Dustin a few times. Dustin played in Scotland twice and used Austin.

But then in November 2013, Dustin scored his biggest golf victory to date at the HSBC Champions, an event in China full of who’s who in the sport.

That win sealed it and the brothers have been working together since.

Dustin also won the March 2015 WGC-Cadillac Championship with Austin on the bag.

3. Austin Played Basketball at Charleston Southern



Austin has some athletic ability as well. He played guard for the Charleston Southern men’s basketball team from 2007-10.

A sometimes starter, Austin had his best year in 2008-09 as a sophomore. He played nearly 16 minutes per game, starting 9 of 27.

Austin didn’t play his senior season as he transferred to the College of Charleston to finish school.

4. Austin Is 6-Foot-3 & 28 Years-Old



If you watch golf on TV, you can see Dustin is one of taller players on the Tour. At a lean, 6-foot-4 he looks the part of a professional athlete. And he backs it up as the third-longest hitter on the PGA Tour. Dustin turns 32 on June 22.

Austin was a former basketball player, so he has some height to him as well. The 29-year-old stands 6-3.

Take a look at them on the course over the weekend of the U.S. Open. They really do resemble each other.

5. His Girlfriend Is Somewhat of a Social Media Celebrity

We all know about Dustin Johnson and his famous girlfriend — Paulina Gretzky, daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.

And while Austin’s girlfriend might not be as well-known, Samantha Maddox is becoming a social media force. She was a tennis player at the College of Charleston and often frequents the course with Austin, Dustin and Paulina.
