Graves notched an assist and two hits in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Sabres. Graves has three points over his last seven appearances. The Penguins dressed seven defensemen due to injuries among the forwards Thursday, but with recalls coming Friday, look for the team to cut back to a traditional six-blueliner lineup Sunday against the Senators. Graves remains in competition with Ryan Shea and Vladislav Kolyachonok for a spot on the third pairing. The 27-year-old is typically more of a defensive forward, but the Penguins' center depth has been tested by the absences of Evgeni Malkin (upper body) and Thomas Novak (lower body), allowing Lizotte to see more ice time. For the season, he has 10 goals, 19 points, 47 shots, 58 hits and a minus-5 rating over 55 appearances.
Hayes scored a goal on six shots and added four hits in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Sabres. Hayes has four points over his last eight games. The 32-year-old has played a larger role recently while Evgeni Malkin (upper body) has missed the last couple of contests. Hayes has 11 goals, 21 points, 90 shots on net, 48 hits and a minus-14 rating through 57 outings. His promotion to the top six is likely to be temporary, so fantasy managers probably won't need to add Hayes to their rosters.
Koivunen was called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday. Koivunen has been lighting it up in his first season at the AHL level, tallying 21 goals and 34 assists in 62 games, good for sixth place in scoring. He should get a good look at the NHL level the final three weeks of the season, likely as a middle-six forward.
McGroarty was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday. McGroarty was underwhelming in his three appearances for the Penguins this year, recording zero points, two shots and four hits while averaging 11:37 of ice time. A stint in the minors appears to have done the 20-year-old winger some good, as he has racked up 14 goals and 25 assists in 60 minor-league contests. In addition to this stint with Pittsburgh to end the current campaign, McGroarty should be a strong candidate to make the team's 23-man roster for Opening Night next year.
Crosby scored his 26th goal of the season in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Sabres. The future Hall of Famer got his team on the board midway through the first period, before the game got away from the Penguins. It was Crosby's 80th point of the season, assuring that he'll finish 2024-25 having averaged at least a point a contest for the 20th straight season -- breaking Wayne Gretzky's NHL record of 19 straight point-a-game campaigns. Pittsburgh's playoff chances are fading rapidly, but Crosby is going down swinging. He's found the scoresheet in 12 of 13 games in March, piling up eight goals and 19 points on the month.
Nedeljkovic stopped 15 of 18 shots after replacing Tristan Jarry early in the second period of Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Sabres. The real issue was the Pittsburgh defense, as neither netminder was able to do much against a barrage of high-danger chances. Nedeljkovic has come on in relief in back-to-back games, and through six appearances in March he's gone 1-3-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .900 save percentage as the Penguins fade out of the playoff picture.
