Moody nailed his only field-goal attempt from 33 yards out while converting both point-after tries in Sunday's 20-17 loss to Seattle. Moody had a tumultuous return from injury in Week 10, missing three FGAs before mercifully hitting his last kick to finish off a win over Tampa Bay. Things went a lot smoother this time around, albeit in a losing effort on far less kicking attempts. Moody should resume being a safe play in fantasy, but it is worth noting his upcoming schedule that features two road games outdoors on the east coast. The first test comes on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field when the 49ers visit the Packers next Sunday.

Jake Moody Latest News
Clean outing Sunday
Innaccurate in return
Moody (ankle) went 3-for-6 on field-goal attempts while converting both of his point-after tries in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Buccaneers. Moody returned from an ankle injury that cost him three weeks of game action, but the results were mixed upon returning Sunday. The 2023 third-round pick wound up missing three field-goal attempts (44, 49 and 50 yards) before nailing his sixth and final attempt for the win. Moody went 13-for-14 on FGA in five games prior to getting injured, so perhaps Sunday's poor showing was simply the kicker shaking off the rust from a long layoff. Barring a rash roster move, Moody should remain kicking for San Francisco in a crucial matchup against the Seahawks next Sunday.
Set to return Sunday
Moody (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay. The 49ers have cycled through three kickers this season -- also, Matthew Wright (IR, shoulder) and Anders Carlson -- due to injuries. Moody kicked off Week 10 prep with back-to-back limited sessions but practiced in full Friday, so he's been cleared to return for the first time since he sustained a right high-ankle sprain during a Week 5 loss to the Cardinals.
Logs another limited practice
Moody (ankle) was a limited participant in practice Thursday. Moody is looking to return from a three-game absence due to a high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 5 against Arizona. The second-year kicker has been limited at the first two 49ers practices to begin the week, so he has a decent -- but not guaranteed -- chance of taking the field Sunday versus Tampa Bay. Anders Carlson, who kicked for San Francisco in Weeks 7 and 8, was cut from the team's practice squad Tuesday, which could be an indication that Moody is expected to make his return this weekend.
Opens week as limited
Moody (ankle) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Moody suffered a high-ankle sprain during the 49ers' Week 5 loss to the Cardinals, which caused him to miss the last three regular-season games. With the 49ers coming out of a Week 9 bye, Moody was able to return to practice Wednesday, albeit in a limited capacity. If he's able to log a full practice session this week, that bodes well for his chances of returning for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Across five regular-season games, Moody has gone 13-for-14 on field-goal attempts and has converted on all 12 of his extra-point tries.
Won't play Week 8
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Moody (ankle) won't play in next Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The 49ers have a Week 9 bye, so Moody will get another two weeks to heal. Anders Carlson will again kick for San Francisco after he made both of his field-goal attempts (from 55 and 24 yards) against Kansas City. Carlson, however, missed his one extra-point try.
Out again in Week 7
Moody (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Moody sustained a right high-ankle sprain Week 5 against the Cardinals, and coach Kyle Shanahan said afterward that the kicker would require roughly a month to recover from the injury. Consequently, it's no surprise that Moody is missing a second game in a row, and the 49ers will be using a third kicker in as many contests this weekend after Matthew Wright emerged from Week 6 with shoulder and back issues that will require an IR stint. Anders Carlson, who is on San Francisco's practice squad, is lined up to handle placekicking duties Sunday and potentially beyond that point.
Could face month-long absence
San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that he expects Moody to miss "about a month" due to a right high-ankle sprain, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. While Shanahan admitted that Moody's recovery timeline is still somewhat hazy, the kicker could be a candidate for injured reserve if the 49ers determine that he'll need at least four games to recover from the ankle sprain. At the very least, the 49ers will be without Moody for at least a few weeks, with his injury prompting the team to bring in five kickers for a tryout Monday. The 49ers ultimately signed Matthew Wright, and he'll take over as the team's kicker beginning with Thursday's game against the Seahawks.
Diagnosed with high-ankle sprain
Moody suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's 24-23 loss to the Cardinals, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Moody's right ankle was bent under him while he made a tackle during a kickoff in the second quarter of Sunday's game. He was carted to the locker room, where further tests revealed a high-ankle sprain for the 24-year-old kicker. With the 49ers facing the Seahawks on Thursday, San Francisco may have to hold placekicker tryouts early in the week. The 49ers' next game after that is against the Chiefs on Oct. 20.
