The Patriots signed Mitchell to a reserve/future contract Wednesday. Mitchell spent time on the team's practice squad late last season but didn't appear in any games and was ultimately released in January. The 27-year-old also appeared in one game with the Chiefs during the 2025 campaign, playing seven offensive snaps and failing to haul in his lone target.
The Patriots released Mitchell from the practice squad Wednesday. Mitchell signed to New England's practice squad in late December as a possible depth option for TreVeyon Henderson, who was questionable to play with a concussion. The five-year pro from Louisiana is four years removed from his best season in 2021, when he rushed the ball 207 times for 963 yards and five touchdowns, while also catching the ball 19 times for 137 yards and one touchdown.
The Patriots signed Mitchell to the practice squad Tuesday. Mitchell was waived by the Chiefs last Saturday and has already found a new home. The running back has a chance to be elevated for Week 17 against the Jets due to the Patriots' starting back TreVeyon Henderson (concussion) potentially not clearing the league's five-step concussion protocol in time for Sunday's game.
