As you’d expect from the most high-profile tennis player of her – and possibly any – generation, Serena Williams has had a string of equally high-profile relationships. For example, she had a dalliance with Bulgarian tennis pro Grigor Dimitrov, which led to an almighty spat with Maria Sharapova. She also had a long-term relationship with rapper Common, whose Oscar she “borrowed” earlier this year.
These days she’s happily ensconced with coach Patrick Mouratoglou, whom we’ve known about ever since the aforementioned Sharapova publicly announced two years ago that Serena and the then-married father of two were an item. It’s certainly had a positive impact on her tennis: Williams has won 28 titles including six Grand Slams since the pair hooked up, professionally at least.
While we know plenty about the trials and tribulations of Serena Williams’ love life, we know the square root of ’eff all about Garbine Muguruza’s other half. Williams’ Wimbledon final opponent this weekend didn’t made it past the 2nd Round at SW19 in her two previous visits, and was seeded just 20th despite quarter final appearances at Roland Garros in each of the last two years. She does know how to beat Williams, however, dispatching her 6-2, 6-2 at least year’s French Open.
If she pulls off the same again this Saturday, will we see her jump into the crowd to embrace that special someone in her life, as so many Wimbledon winners have done in the past?
Your guess is as good as ours.
