By the end of Saturday, Copa America will be down to it’s final four teams. Gone from the quarterfinals are Ecuador and Peru, having been dispatched by USA and Colombia respectively. USA scored early and edged out a 2-1 victory, while Colombia were unable to convert chances and instead triumphed via penalty shootout.
USA caught some luck in the early rounds, as a late Colombia loss in the group stage put them atop Group A. That put their quarterfinal match in Seattle, an area known for it’s soccer passion. Although CenturyLink Field wasn’t packed due to ticket prices, USA still held a formidable home-field advantage.
The deck will be slightly stacked against them in the semifinals. USA have three suspended players for their matchup in Houston, all of whom have been major contributors. To make matters worse, they will likely be paired with Argentina, currently the top-ranked team on the planet.
