WWE superstar Paige has been missing in action for weeks now, not appearing on Monday Night Raw at all since the 2016 draft, and she was recently pulled from the company’s upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand. So where is she? Was she injured?
Rumors have run rampant that Paige was being fired from the company, that she was pregnant, or that some other backstage drama was happening, but that does not seem to be the case. The WWE superstar has apparently suffered an injury that has kept her away from the company, as her mother, Saraya Knight, confirmed on Twitter. Knight also expressed outrage at rumors that have popped up surrounding Paige’s status.
Details about her injury are scarce, but Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio reports that Paige is going through issues with her back and shoulder, and she’s likely to be absent for about another two weeks. In a recent Twitter post, Paige was seen working out at the gym, and she specifically noted that she trying to get her back and shoulder stronger.
Paige suffers from scoliosis, a medical condition that causes a curvature of the spine. In a 2015 appearance on the Stone Cold podcast, she said that her spine looks like a question mark. At the time, she said that she probably should be seeing a chiropractor but isn’t, and Stone Cold questioned whether this condition could lead to problems for her in the future. She did not definitively say that it wouldn’t.
If Meltzer’s report that Paige will be gone for two weeks is correct, she could return just in time for the WWE’s upcoming pay-per-view, SummerSlam. But right now, all eyes in the Raw women’s division are on Sasha Banks, who recently defeated Charlotte to become the WWE Women’s Champion. She will defend her title against Charlotte at the August 21st pay-per-view. Paige’s most recent storyline saw her teaming up with Sasha Banks to take on Charlotte and Dana Brooke.
Paige, whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis, made her debut on the WWE’s main roster in April 2014. She shocked the world in 2014 when she won the Divas Championship during her first match, becoming the youngest superstar to ever earn that title. She was 21 years old at the time.
UPDATE 8/11: There is now concern that Paige’s injury is more serious than initially reported, and she may have suffered nerve damage.
