The latest premiere in ESPN’s ’30 For 30′ documentary series is here, and it’s one of the most highly-anticipated docs in the series. This Was The XFL, a documentary detailing the failed football league spearheaded by Vince McMahon, is set to debut just three days before Super Bowl 51.

McMahon created the league with NBC Sports legend Dick Ebersol, after Ebersol and NBC refused to pay the ballooning NFL rights. The XFL totaled eight teams and launched in 2000, but failed to attract the talent to rival the NFL. The league suffered bad luck and setbacks from the start, and folded after one season.

‘This Was The XFL’ is directed by Charlie Ebersol and airs at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. Immediately afterwards, ESPN will air it’s tribute to the career of longtime employee Chris Berman.
