It’s probably safe to say just as many people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials as they do for the game itself.
Ad companies know this game is one of the most-watched events in the world and they need to get the attention of potential customers.
California-based burger chain Carl’s Jr. knows how to grab attention.
Famous for casting models to hock their burgers, the restaurant is sticking to that plan for Super Bowl 49 by using 22-year-old up-and-comer Charlotte McKinney in their ads.
McKinney, who is rooting for the Seattle Seahawks to win, dropped out of high school, where she had struggled with dyslexia, to focus on her modeling career.
She was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, and began modeling in Miami as a teen doing swimsuit shoots.
Here’s what you need to know about McKinney:
1. The Commercials Are Considered Controversial
Carl’s Jr. is becoming famous for putting scantily clad models in commercials to grab the attention of viewers.
The expression “sex sells” apparently also applies to cheeseburgers and fries.
2. McKinney Is Being Compared to Kate Upton
McKinney has been drawing comparisons to another model, Kate Upton.
Kate also did a Carl’s Jr. commercial.
McKinney told Esquire she didn’t mind the comparisons:
It’s pretty obvious. We both have blonde hair, we’re from Florida, and we have enormous (breasts). It’s super-flattering to me.
3. She Actually Took a Bite of The Burger
You can’t believe everything you see on commercials. Athletes and models pitch things all the time and sometimes you have to wonder if they really enjoy the product they’re selling. I mean, does Peyton Manning really eat Papa John’s pizza?
McKinney told Esquire she chowed down on her Carl’s Jr. burger:
I went for it! I bit into that burger. They want it to look as real as it can. I definitely got in there. They said usually most of the girls take a lot of bites, but I only did eight. My best bite was my first one. I only took eight bites. I’m a fan of Carl’s Jr., though.
She also told the New York Daily News:
I’m not a big red-meat eater, but I enjoy a hamburger on a Sunday to cure a hangover.
4. McKinney Is Very Active on Social Media
McKinney is quite active on social media, most notably Twitter and Instagram.
As a model, she’s not scared to put her picture up for the world to see.
McKinney also has a website.
5. Paris Hilton Was Once in a Carl’s Jr. TV Ad
Carl’s Jr. was a popular burger chain since 1945, but they took off when they cast Paris Hilton to be in one of their racy ads.
Getting a famous celebrity like Hilton to star in a commercial during the Super Bowl is a wise move. Expensive, but wise. It’s obviously paid off.
