Latest Celtics News
Baylor Scheierman : Recalled to NBA
Boston recalled Scheierman from the G League's Maine Celtics on Monday, John Karalis of BostonSportsJournal.com reports. With Sam Hauser iffy due to a back issue, Scheierman could be called upon as an emergency depth option for his perimeter shooting. Scheierman posted 22 points (6-16 FG, 3-12 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, six assists, two steals and one block in 35 minutes during Sunday's 121-104 G League win over the Motor City Cruise.
Sam Hauser : iffy for Monday vs. Magic
Hauser (back) is questionable for Monday's game against the Magic, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports. Hauser is in jeopardy of missing his third consecutive outing due to lower back spasms. If the 27-year-old is sidelined Monday, Jordan Walsh and Jaden Springer could see a slight uptick in playing time.
Jaylen Brown : Productive in Saturday’s win
Brown totaled 19 points (9-20 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, eight assists and one steal across 33 minutes during Saturday's 123-98 victory over the Bulls. Jayson Tatum dominated for the Celtics with 43 points, and Brown was one of only two other Boston players (along with Kristaps Porzingis) to even score in double digits. Brown saw his streak of games with at least one three-pointer snapped at 16, however. In eight December appearances, the 28-year-old wing is averaging 20.9 points, 5.5 assists, 4.9 boards, 1.8 threes and 1.4 steals.
Kristaps Porzingis : Hits for 22 in win
Porzingis recorded 22 points (8-15 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals across 30 minutes during Saturday's 123-98 victory over the Bulls. The veteran big man continues to have trouble staying healthy -- it's been Porzingis' heel that's been bothering him of late, limiting him to 11 minutes in a Dec. 15 contest against the Wizards -- but when he's been on the court, he's been his usual productive self. He's scored at least 20 points in five of his last eight appearances, averaging 19.9 points, 7.3 boards, 2.3 threes, 1.6 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.9 steals over that stretch.
Jayson Tatum : Makes Celtics history in huge game
Tatum finished Saturday's 123-98 victory over the Bulls with 43 points (16-24 FG, 9-15 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 16 rebounds and 10 assists across 36 minutes. Per Zack Cox of the Boston Herald, Tatum became the first player in the storied history of the Celtics to produce a 40-point, 15-board, 10-assist line. The triple-double was his first of the season and the third of his career, continuing a hot streak that has seen Tatum deliver at least a double-double in six straight appearances even though he's been tending to knee tendinitis during that time. Over that stretch, the 26-year-old MVP candidate has averaged 28.5 points, 12.0 boards, 5.7 assists and 3.8 threes.
Sam Hauser : No-go Saturday
Hauser (back) won't play in Saturday's game against the Bulls, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports. Hauser will miss a second straight game due to lower back spasms. The 26-year-old's absence should open up more opportunities for Jaden Springer and Jordan Walsh. Hauser's next chance to play will come Monday at Orlando.
Sam Hauser : Questionable to play against Bulls
Hauser (back) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against Chicago, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports. Hauser has missed two of the Celtics' last three games due to lower back spasms. Jaden Springer saw extended playing time against the Bulls on Thursday, and he could be in line for meaningful playing time off the bench if Hauser is unable to play Saturday, as well as Jordan Walsh and Drew Peterson.
Xavier Tillman : Not listed on injury report
Tillman (illness) is not listed on the injury report for Saturday's game against the Bulls, Taylor Snow of the Celtics' official site reports. Tillman missed Thursday's 117-108 loss to the Bulls with a non-COVID illness, but the big man should be ready to go for Saturday. He'll add some much-needed depth in the frontcourt, but he shouldn't see a lot of minutes if both Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis are available.
