Jaden Springer: Breaking News

Waived by New Orleans

The Pelicans waived Springer on Thursday, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports. Springer had claimed an Opening Night roster spot with the Pelicans, but he didn't see the court during Wednesday's 128-122 loss to the Grizzlies. If another team doesn't scoop him up, the 2021 first-rounder could join the G League's Birmingham Squadron.

Makes Opening Night roster

Springer claimed an Opening Night roster spot with the Pelicans, Michael Scotto of USA Today reported Sunday. Springer has officially found his new home after stints with the 76ers, Celtics and Jazz. Springer can play multiple spots on the floor which helps his case, but at least initially, he's not expected to be in the rotation for Opening Night with the Pelicans close to full strength.

Not on injury report

Springer (ankle) was not on the injury report for Saturday's preseason game against the Melbourne Phoenix. Springer sat out Friday's 107-97 preseason win over Melbourne United with a left ankle sprain, but he's back in the mix and could see minutes in this preseason tune-up against another Australian team. Springer is on an Exhibit 9 deal and hoping to claim a roster spot with the Pelicans, so he's expected to make the most of every shot he has to be on the hardwood.
