The Bills and Samuel agreed to a three-year, $24 million contract Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Over the last two seasons in Washington, Samuel combined for 126 catches (on 183 targets), 1,269 yards and eight touchdowns in 33 regular-season games. He also boasts an average of 5.9 yards on 121 carries across seven years as a pro. With Buffalo, Samuel will bring a versatile aspect to a passing game headlined by QB Josh Allen, WRs Stefon Diggs and Khalil Shakir and TE Dalton Kincaid.
The fight occurred in the aftermath of Sam Howell's eight-yard touchdown run, when some Commanders players took offense to a late hit Howell took while crossing the goal line. Samuel and Giants cornerback Cor'Dale Flott were tossed from the contest for their involvement in the fight.
Samuel returned from the injury last week and ended up playing slightly less than usual -- 51 percent of snaps -- in a 29-26 loss at Seattle. It's hard to say if that was a product of the toe injury or more a matter of the Commanders wanting to get Dyami Brown some playing time. Either way, Samuel is averaging only 37.6 receiving yards per game and hasn't been used much as a runner (four carries for 20 yards and a TD) under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Samuel has strung together back-to-back capped sessions to begin Week 11 prep, giving him only one more chance to get back to all activity before the Commanders potentially tag him with an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants. He was able to play through his toe injury Week 10 in Seattle, but he hauled in just two of six targets for six yards.
Samuel sat out Week 9 due to a toe injury, but he was able to play this past Sunday in Seattle, where he handled a 51 percent snap share on his way to two catches (on six targets) for six yards. The issue may persist for weeks, but he'll have opportunities Thursday and Friday to prove he's good to go ahead of Sunday's game versus the Giants.
After missing a Week 9 road matchup with the Patriots due to a toe injury that he suffered one week prior, Samuel was able to practice in a limited capacity during Week 10 prep before the Commanders gave him a questionable designation. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported Saturday that Samuel was in line to play Sunday, which has come to fruition. Samuel thus will be available against a Seahawks defense that has allowed the ninth-most catches (118) to opposing wide receivers in eight contests this season.
Samuel practiced on a limited basis all week, so this report isn't entirely surprising. The veteran receiver had been a critical part of the team's passing attack, recording at least four receptions in each of the past five games before missing Sunday's Week 9 contest. For Week 10, it's possible the Commanders and Samuel could be trying to keep pace all afternoon, especially against a Seahawks squad that can generate points.
With Samuel sidelined, Jamison Crowder should be in line for an expanded role out of the slot. Crowder had seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Commanders' 38-31 Week 8 loss to the Eagles, which Samuel left early due to his toe injury. Samuel's next chance to take the field will come in Week 10 against the Seahawks.
