Liljegren agreed to terms on a two-year, $6.5 million contract with Washington on Wednesday. Liljegren appeared in just four regular-season games for the Caps last year after he was acquired at the trade deadline from the Sharks. If the 27-year-old blueliner can get back to being the 20-point producer he was with the Maple Leafs, he'll be worth his new contract, though it's been two years since he put up those numbers.

Timothy Liljegren : Secures two-year deal
Liljegren agreed to terms on a two-year, $6.5 million contract with Washington on Wednesday. Liljegren appeared in just four regular-season games for the Caps last year after he was acquired at the trade deadline from the Sharks. If the 27-year-old blueliner can get back to being the 20-point producer he was with the Maple Leafs, he'll be worth his new contract, though it's been two years since he put up those numbers.
Rasmus Sandin : Undergoes knee surgery
Sandin underwent right knee surgery Tuesday for a torn ACL. Sandin missed Washington's final two games of 2025-26 and finished the campaign with five goals, 29 points, 12 PIM, 88 hits and 127 blocks in 73 outings. He's expected to miss 6-9 months as a result of the injury, which puts his availability for the start of the 2026-27 campaign into question.
Rasmus Sandin : Set to miss start of 2026-27 season
General manager Chris Patrick said Monday that Sandin (knee) is expected to miss a "decent amount of time" to begin the 2026-27 campaign, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Sandin missed the final two games of the regular season in 2025-26 due to a knee injury, and he's expected to continue to deal with the injury over the summer and into next fall. It's not yet clear when the 26-year-old will be able to make his 2026-27 debut, but Patrick said Monday that Sandin's injury will factor into the Capitals' offseason plans.
Pierre-Luc Dubois : Has fractured hand
Dubois suffered a fractured hand during Sunday's 3-0 win over Pittsburgh, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com. Dubois missed Washington's season finale Tuesday due to what was previously classified as an upper-body injury. The Capitals didn't make the playoffs, so Dubois has plenty of time to focus on his recovery. The 27-year-old is hoping to avoid surgery and be fine in a month or two. He finished 2025-26 with five goals and 19 points in 29 outings.
Anthony Beauvillier : Tallies in Tuesday’s win
Beauvillier scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets. Beauvillier was able to snap a seven-game goal drought in the season finale. The 28-year-old winger closes out the campaign at 28 points over 82 appearances, his best total since he had 34 points in 75 games for the Islanders in 2021-22. He added 155 shots on net, 93 hits, 48 blocked shots, 30 PIM and a plus-7 rating this season. Beauvillier is under contract with the Capitals for 2026-27.
Jakob Chychrun : Nets game-winner on power play
Chychrun scored a power-play goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets. Chychrun snapped a four-game point drought with the tally. The 28-year-old defenseman will end his career-best campaign with 26 goals, 60 points (18 on the power play), 221 shots on net, 114 blocked shots, 62 PIM, 58 hits and a plus-20 rating over 80 appearances. Chychrun will enter 2026-27 as the Capitals' top defenseman and should be a popular pick in fantasy drafts, though his goal scoring may regress slightly after he shot a career-high 11.8 percent this year.
Alex Ovechkin : Pockets PP assist in season finale
Ovechkin recorded a power-play assist in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jackets. In what could be his final NHL game, Ovechkin helped set up Jakob Chychrun for the game-winning goal late in the third period. The 40-year-old Ovechkin has yet to decide whether he'll return in 2026-27. However, he proved he is still capable of making a significant contributions, wrapping up the season with 32 goals and 64 points while playing all 82 games for the Capitals.
Rasmus Sandin : Won’t play in season finale
Sandin (leg) won't play against the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports. Sandin will miss his second straight game. He will finish the 2025-26 regular season with five goals, 29 points, 90 shots on net, 127 blocked shots and 88 hits in 73 appearances.
