Jamie Gillan: Breaking News

Let go by NYG

The Giants released Gillan on Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Gillan spent the last four years of his NFL career with the Giants. He averaged 44.5 yards per punt across 16 regular-season games in 2025, finishing with a 7.3 percent touchback rate and landed 17 of 55 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Gillan will look to join a team in need of a punter.

Ready to rock

Gillan (knee) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Vikings, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Gillan practiced in a limited fashion throughout the week after missing the Giants' Week 15 loss to the Commanders due to a knee injury. However, it now appears he's moved past the issue. Expect the 28-year-old from Arkansas-Pine Bluff to serve as New York's top punter in the Week 16 contest.

Not playing Sunday

Gillan (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Gillan was unable to practice all week due to a left knee injury, and his next opportunity to play is Week 16 against the Vikings on Sunday, Dec. 21. Cameron Johnston was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, and he will serve as the Giants' punter Sunday in Gillan's absence.
