Hyatt didn't catch his only target in a Week 1 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Hyatt logged only 16 offensive snaps in the defeat, well behind fellow wideouts Malik Nabers (71), Darius Slayton (51) and Wan'Dale Robinson (48). That provides pretty clear evidence of where Hyatt is on the depth chart right now, though he could see significantly more opportunity Week 2 versus Washington on Sunday if Slayton is unable to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time for the contest.

Rarely involved Week 1
Hyatt didn't catch his only target in a Week 1 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Hyatt logged only 16 offensive snaps in the defeat, well behind fellow wideouts Malik Nabers (71), Darius Slayton (51) and Wan'Dale Robinson (48). That provides pretty clear evidence of where Hyatt is on the depth chart right now, though he could see significantly more opportunity Week 2 versus Washington on Sunday if Slayton is unable to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time for the contest.
Minimal action in preseason opener
Hyatt caught his only target for no gain in Thursday's 14-3 preseason win over the Lions. Hyatt's lone target came from Drew Lock (hip) on the opening drive. Rookie sixth overall pick Malik Nabers wasn't targeted at all on his 12 snaps in the game, so neither of the young speedsters made much of an impact Thursday. Hyatt's coming off a 373-yard rookie season, and the 2023 third-round draft pick is trying to carve out a larger role in 2024. The Giants' second preseason game will be next Saturday in Houston.
Getting regular first-team work
Hyatt has been getting more first-team reps than Darius Slayton (undisclosed) during training camp, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. This seems to at least partially be a product of Slayton managing a minor injury, but it's nonetheless a nice opportunity for Hyatt on the heels of a disappointing rookie season. The 2023 third-round pick caught 23 of 40 targets for 373 yards in 17 games last year, averaging 16.2 yards per catch while drawing a target on just 10.6 percent of routes. He'll need to draw targets at a much higher rate to achieve mainstream fantasy relevance, which could be a challenge if fellow WRs Malik Nabers and Wan'Dale Robinson develop as the Giants hope. On the other hand, a lack of established at TE and RB could push a huge portion of the team's targets toward the WRs.
Bumps down depth chart
Hyatt is expected to be the Giants' top backup wide receiver in 2024 following the team's selection of Malik Nabers with the No. 6 overall pick in last week's NFL Draft, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. Hyatt injured his hamstring in the season finale against the Eagles but is presumably over the issue by now and is coming off a rookie season that saw him secure 23 of 40 targets for 373 scoreless yards. He did average a strong 16.2 yards per catch, but the number of catchable passes thrown his way were few and far between as a downfield threat. Darius Slayton is expected to open the season opposite Nabers, with Wan'Dale Robinson in the slot, though the Giants would likely prefer to see Hyatt push Slayton for snaps.
First 100-yard game of NFL career
Hyatt got free downfield for catches of 29 and 41 yards en route to a career high in receiving yards. Fellow deep threat Darius Slayton (neck) was active after being doubtful heading into Sunday's game but was limited to 16 yards on three targets while Hyatt capitalized on his increased role with the best game of his rookie season. The Giants' third-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft (73rd overall) will look to build on this promising performance in Week 14 against the Packers following a Week 13 bye.
Progressing through concussion protocol
Hyatt suffered a concussion this past Sunday at Dallas, and after kicking off Week 11 prep with no on-field work Wednesday, he made noticeable progress one day later by putting in some work. Still, he likely has multiple steps to take in his quest through the protocol for head injuries, the last of which will be gaining clearance from an independent neurologist. Hyatt will need to do so by Saturday in order to be available Sunday in Washington.
Won't return Sunday
Hyatt went to the locker room in the second half of Sunday's matchup and will be unavailable down the stretch due to his concussion. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available for next Sunday's game against the Commanders.
