Micah Parsons is considering pushing the Dallas Cowboys for a trade.

Tensions are rising between the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons, prompting concerns about the star pass rusher’s future in Big D. Parsons reported to training camp but is not practicing as the defender seeks a new lucrative contract.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that conflict between the Cowboys and Parsons has escalated with the star considering a potential trade request.

“BREAKING: The Micah Parsons-Cowboys relationship has deteriorated to the point where the star pass rusher is considering drastic measures which could include a trade request or even a declaration that he is severing his relationship with the team, per multiple league sources familiar with the situation,” Russini explained in an August 1, 2025, message on X.

“The two sides remain far apart heading into the second week of training camp, and are not currently negotiating.”

Tensions Are Mounting Between the Cowboys & Micah Parsons Amid Contract Standoff

The latest update comes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter also reported that tensions have risen between Parsons and Dallas. Parsons is technically under contract with the Cowboys in 2025 and is slated to have a $24 million salary as part of a club option Dallas picked up.

“It sounds like Dallas is upset with the fact it felt like it was getting closer to a deal and that deal went sideways. And I think Micah Parsons feels like this deal should have been done,” Schefter explained during a July 29, interview on “The Pat McAfee Show,” per Yahoo Sports.

“I don’t think Micah’s real happy with them. I don’t think they’re real happy with him. I don’t think anybody’s real happy with anybody, and I don’t think there’s a deal that’s being discussed right now, not to mention being close.”

The Cowboys Are Refusing to Negotiate With Micah Parsons Agent After Believing a Deal Was Reached: Report

At the center of the dispute appears to be how the contract negotiations are being handled. The Cowboys believed they had a deal done with Parsons individually and are refusing to negotiate with the star’s agent David Mulugheta.

“Among the key issues: Parsons spoke directly with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones over multiple days in the spring,” Russini and Jon Machota wrote in an August 1, story titled, “Micah Parsons-Cowboys relationship deteriorating amid contract standoff: Sources.” “The team believed those conversations were negotiations and that it had a deal, multiple league sources said. But Parsons believed the talks were just conversations and wanted his agent to handle the negotiations.

“When Parsons’ agent attempted to start negotiations, the Cowboys declined to engage with him and told the pass rusher that they believed they already had a deal. Now, the team is refusing to engage with Parsons’ agent at all, creating a tense standoff amid increasing friction.”

The Cowboys Have Tended to Wait Until the Last Minute When Signing Stars to Contract Extensions

The Cowboys have a recent history of waiting until training camp to strike contract extensions with their stars. It will be worth watching to see if the two parties can table hard feelings in order to reach a new deal.

“Micah Parsons has one of the most talented, successful agents (David Mulugheta) in the sport,” Spotrac detailed on X. “Jerry Jones and the Cowboys brass refuse to deal with the agent, opting to communicate directly with Parsons himself.

“When this happens, and negotiations become contentious, it can lead to a miserable player. Agents have a lot of jobs, but shielding the player from this noise is one of the bigger ones.”
