The focus of the NFL world has been on the Super Bowl, but one of the biggest talking points in San Francisco has been Maxx Crosby’s future with the Las Vegas Raiders.
He wasn’t happy with how the team placed him on Injured Reserve, ending his season early. FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer added fuel to the fire when he suggested that Crosby is going to request a trade.
The star defensive end has been making an effort not to address rumors, but that has left room for more speculation. It has been said that Crosby was close with minority owner Tom Brady in the past, but that might not be the case anymore.
According to Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom.com, Crosby had a tense conversation with Brady and made it clear that he’s done playing for the Raiders.
“He told Tom Brady he will never play for the Raiders again,” an unnamed general manager told La Canfora. “That’s a fact. He told them he’ll retire before he ever plays for them again. But I’m not sure they’re actually going to trade him. Myles Garrett said the same thing last year, and we know how that ended up.”
Any Merit to This Rumor?
These rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. La Canfora is a veteran reporter, but he’s been wrong about Raiders stuff in the past.
It seems odd that Crosby would have such a notable conversation with Brady, and it’s just leaking out now. It’s clear that the Raiders and Crosby have some things to figure out.
The team is in a rebuild, but as the New England Patriots just showed, a rebuild can happen very quickly with the right coach and quarterback. It’s possible that Crosby let the emotions get the better of him when he first got shut down for the season and went off on Brady, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t have changed his mind when he cooled off.
Crosby Not Trying to Address Rumors
This isn’t the first time Crosby has been named in trade rumors, and it likely won’t be the last. In the past, he’s been very vocal about where his head is at when it comes to all things Raiders.
That has led to some unnecessary drama for him. At this stage in his career, he’s trying to focus on himself and his rehab. He suggested that he’s still happy with the team, but isn’t willing to shut down the trade rumors altogether.
“Now that I’m quiet, I’ve got random people making big statements for me,” Crosby said on “The Herd.” “They’re like, ‘Maxx must’ve told them this.’ For me, I just sit back and laugh because I know my truth and when I go to bed at night, I have a smile on my face because I don’t have to explain nothing to nobody.
“I’m getting healthy. I’m in the building every single day. I’m in this building from 6 a.m. when it’s dark out, and I’m here until almost 2. … That’s all I care about, so all the noise, that’s news to me sometimes.”
