Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the alpine skiers competing at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Team USA, and she’s partnering up with Breezy Johnson during the festivities, as well as skiing alone. But, she’ll never truly be alone, because Shiffrin is engaged to her longtime boyfriend and fiancé, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, a Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer.
The two have been a couple since 2021 and officially announced their engagement on April 4, 2024. Shiffrin and Kilde are often seen supporting each other at ski events, and he’s a star in downhill and super-G, so they’re a true power couple on and off the slopes.
So, who is Mikaela Shiffrin’s boyfriend turned future husband? Let’s get into details about this couple and their relationship.
Mikaela Shiffrin’s Boyfriend is Now Her Fiancé, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and They Are Each Other’s Rocks
“We’ve been a rock for each other,” he told the official Olympics website during the Atomic Media Day in October 2025. “I think that’s how we go about stuff in general. We’re always supporting each other, we’re always trying to look at things in a positive way.”
When Kilde was back in World Cup action in Copper Mountain, Colorado, Shiffrin watched on the side of the slope along with her mother, Eileen. So, this couple truly supports each other.
The Two Say Having a Long-Distance Relationship is Difficult, But They Make It Work
Because of their hectic and difficult schedules on the slopes, these two are often apart geographically. But, they make it work.
“Having a fiancée that’s doing the same job as me and also going through the same challenges, is pretty cool,” Kilde told the official Olympics website. “It can be very tough, because you want to be there physically with each other. And that’s the hardest part, because the distance is there.”
He Was By Her Side During a Heartbreaking Crash, and He Truly Helped Her Become Herself Again
Shiffrin was in a horrific crash in November 2024, and at the time, Kilde was overcoming his own injury. But, he was very supportive of her during that time.
“We both have been in survival mode for the last year and a half,” she told People of both her and her fiancé dealing with their accidents. “Total survival mode.”
But, she added, “It’s being able to relate to each other and help each other through those tough moments. He does that for me on a daily basis. It’s pretty special.”
Their Difficulties Have Only Made Them Stronger As a Couple
“We can talk about all the experiences we have now, with challenges and resilience and trying to stay positive in the process, and also [be] realistic in what to focus about and what is actually important,” Shiffrin tells the Olympics.
After Lindsey Vonn’s crash, skiing is even more so in the spotlight, and Shiffrin is another big American name that people are looking forward to watching at the 2026 Winter Games. Look for her eyebrows, too, since in a video shared on social media Monday, February 9, Shiffrin joked about taking her eyebrow personal grooming a “little bit too far.”
