The Buffalo Bills could be getting a better shot at the game-breaking pass rusher they failed to land earlier in the offseason.
The Bills were reportedly motivated to land Maxx Crosby, but fell short when the Las Vegas Raiders went with a higher offer from the Baltimore Ravens — before the entire trade blew up and Crosby returned to the Raiders.
The Bills have been named a potential suitor for the next star to hit the trade block, New York Giants edge rusher Dexter Lawrence, and just got some good news about his availability.
Dexter Lawrence Could Be Moving Soon
As insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported, Lawrence has asked for a trade from the Giants, and it’s more than a negotiating tactic for his next contract.
“Dexter Lawrence’s trade request was not just an attempt for more money from the team,” Jones reported. “Two sources tell me he does indeed want out of New York. But the Giants do not necessarily agree, and they don’t have to make a deal by next week.”
Jones added that the Giants aren’t inclined to sink a big contract into Lawrence after his career-worst season in 2025, but still want a big return if they trade him.
“The acquiring team will likely have to pay Lawrence a salary in the high-20s upon trading for him. That would be OK for a contending team needing an interior defensive lineman and realizing this is not the year to hope you’ll get one in the draft,” Jones wrote.
Jones suggested that Lawrence could fetch a price similar to Quinnen Williams, a first- and second-round pick, but suggested the Giants might be willing to accept a 2027 first-rounder.
“If we get through Friday night with no deal, I would not expect one any time soon. Both sides can pick up where they left off on talks and try to find a middle ground as the spring continues,” Jones wrote.
Bills Could Pursue Dexter Lawrence
The Bills could have some natural advantages if they choose to pursue Lawrence. New York’s general manager, Joe Schoen, served as an assistant to Bills general manager Brandon Beane before joining the Giants. He said this week that the team is willing to listen to offers for their star edge rusher.
“I’m always gonna pick up the phone,” Schoen said. “If a team calls … that is my job as general manager, if teams call, you take into account it’s a case-by-case basis in what the compensation may be. That’s my job to take into consideration what that looks like.”
As Alex Brasky of SI.com noted, the Bills could be a good fit for Lawrence and might be willing to part with their first-round pick to land him.
“A prospective team hoping to swing a deal for Lawrence would likely have to spend at least a first-round pick to do so,” Brasky wrote. “The Bills hold the No. 26 pick and six other selections in the upcoming draft and could bring in an immediate contributor by flipping a pick or two into the perennial Pro Bowler.”
