Derek Rose is a sports journalist covering the NFL and MLB for Heavy.com. His reporting focuses on the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans.
Derek has over seven years of experience in digital media. He has been a contributing writer for Time, Forbes, SPY, and Angi, as well as a contributing editor for The Spruce Eats. His work has also appeared in Atwood Magazine, the Times Union, and The Spruce.
Outside of writing, Derek is a part-time teacher and has led youth sports programs in soccer, baseball, and basketball. Derek was raised in Stillwater, New York, and now lives in Seattle.
Education
Derek received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Marist University and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Columbia University. He covered numerous sports for Marist's student newspaper, the Marist Circle. As a graduate student, Derek received the Felipe P. De Alba Fellowship for excellence in fiction writing.
