Latest Colts News
Ashton Dulin : Moving well as training camp nears
Dulin (knee) did not participate in spring practices but has resumed running without a brace in personal workouts, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Dulin's latest workout video shows him running and cutting in non-contact football activities, and it looks encouraging as he works his way back from a right ACL tear suffered in training camp last year. The 27-year-old is competing for a depth role in Indianapolis' crowded wide receiver room.
Anthony Richardson : To be full-go for training camp
General manager Chris Ballard said Monday in an appearance on The GM Shuffle podcast that Richardson will "be full-go" for training camp, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports. Richardson had rest days mixed into his on-field work during OTAs and mandatory minicamp as a result of shoulder soreness, but those bouts of fatigue don't seem to have represented an actual setback. Instead, it looks like the Colts are simply trying to take a cautious approach to Richardson's recovery as he recovers from October surgery on his right throwing shoulder. By the time training camp kicks off late July, Richardson remains on track to be full strength, but if he's still having to take days off at that time it could represent more cause for concern. At full health, Richardson's combination of arm strength, 6-foot-4, 244-pound size, and 4.43 40 speed provide him a tremendous fantasy ceiling, especially with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell joining Michael Pittman, Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.
Ronnie Harrison : Seeing snaps at safety
Harrison has played almost exclusively as a safety during Colts' mandatory minicamp, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports. The 207-pound defensive weapon spent most of his time at linebacker last season (135 of his 234 defensive snaps in the box), but it now seems as if he's transitioning back to safety. Harrison tallied 20 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, while also intercepting two passes in seven games in 2023. Now that Harrison is moving back to safety, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the Colts' secondary as the offseason progresses.
Evan Hull : Knee injury included torn MCL
Hull revealed his offseason knee surgery was more extensive than first thought as he suffered a torn left MCL also described as a "root tear" of his meniscus, The Athletic reports. He was cleared to return to full football activities a few weeks before OTAs and has participated fully in spring practices. Moss missed all but one game last season due to a knee injury but the details of his surgery were not fully known. There's a wide open competition for the backup role to Jonathan Taylor with Zack Moss departing in free agency. Trey Sermon is likely the leading candidate but Hull and Tyler Goodson are in the mix. Either Hull or Goodson could get more work as the third-down or receiving option due to their pass-catching ability, but the situation remains fluid and it's possible the Colts could bring another veteran into the mix during training camp.
Daniel Scott : Moved to IR
The Colts placed Scott (Achilles) on injured reserve Thursday. This move comes as no surprise, as Scott sustained a torn Achilles during Tuesday's practice and was already ruled out for the Colts' entire 2024 campaign. The 25-year-old was expected to compete for a starting role this offseason after missing his rookie season due to a torn ACL.
Alec Pierce : Sitting out practice
Pierce (foot) is not practicing Thursday, the final day of mandatory minicamp, as a precautionary measure, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. Pierce hasn't practice this week after his foot was stepped on in a previous practice, but it doesn't appear that there's any worry about his status for training camp. The 2022 second-round pick is competing with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell for No. 3 receiver reps behind Michael Pittman (knee) and Josh Downs, so missing any amount of time could portent a hit to Pierce's stock. In two seasons with the Colts, Pierce has averaged a mediocre 554 yards and two touchdowns, but he could've been held back by questionable quarterback play.
Anthony Richardson : Still managing soreness
Richardson took a rest day at practice Thursday due to shoulder soreness, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Coach Shane Steichen said "there's nothing to worry about," per Boyd, and that Richardson would be in line to play were the Colts preparing for a game-scenario this weekend. Steichen added that Richardson had his shoulder checked Thursday morning, and it was confirmed that the quarterback is only dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder. Richardson has been participating in 11-on-11 drills and throwing throughout OTAs, and some soreness as he ramps up his practice activities is to be expected. He remains on track to be full strength for the start of training camp late July.
Daniel Scott : Suffers significant injury
Scott suffered a torn Achilles, head coach Shane Steichen said Tuesday, and will be out for the yearJames Boyd of The Athletic reports. Scott missed his rookie campaign due to a torn ACL and was expected to compete for the team's starting free safety role in 2024. Now the California product will miss another season.
