Brett Baty: Breaking News

Baty is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks. Baty will hit the bench for the series finale while the Diamondbacks send left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill. Andy Ibanez will cover third base in Baty's stead.

Baty went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run in Thursday's 10-8 victory against the Twins. After the Mets fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Baty put his team ahead in the bottom of the frame with a three-run blast off Joe Ryan. That was his first long ball of the campaign after failing to go deep in each of his first 21 contests. Baty has been able to maintain a consistent spot in the lineup despite compiling a meager .225/.250/.338 slash line and 3:23 BB:K so far, and he'll look to use his big performance Thursday as a springboard to improved results at the plate.

Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins. Though he had been included in the lineup in each of the Mets' last six games while the team went up against right-handed starting pitchers, the left-handed-hitting Baty will take a seat while southpaw Connor Prielipp toes the rubber for Minnesota. With Juan Soto (calf) making his return from the injured list Wednesday, the Mets may only have one spot available in the lineup moving forward for either Baty and Carson Benge when the team faces right-handers. Both players have struggled to produce at the plate through the first four weeks of the season, with Baty owning a .498 OPS and Benge generating a .416 OPS.
