Shaw signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Tuesday and was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma. He made his organizational debut Tuesday, recording one out while allowing one earned run on one hit and three walks in Tacoma's 5-4 loss to Las Vegas. The 37-year-old right-hander has a long track record of success as a setup man in the big leagues, but he made just five appearances in the majors in 2024 and struggled with the Reds in spring training and during the early part of the minor-league season at Triple-A Louisville before Cincinnati released him earlier this month.

Optioned to Triple-A
The Reds optioned Shaw to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Shaw signed an NRI deal with the Reds in December after appearing in five games for the White Sox during the 2024 regular season, during which he allowed four earned runs across four frames. He logged a 4.05 ERA in spring training, but he allowed eight walks while striking out seven and will begin the 2025 campaign in Triple-A, though he could return to the Majors if the Reds need to bolster their bullpen.
NRI deal with Cincinnati
The Reds signed Shaw to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. He'll be reunited with manager Terry Francona, who called Shaw's name a total of 519 times during their seven seasons together in Cleveland. The 37-year-old Shaw has split the last two seasons between the majors and minors, holds a 4.53 ERA and 44:21 K:BB over 49.2 frames during his time with the White Sox amidst that stretch.
