Easton Lucas: Breaking News

Released by Blue Jays

The Blue Jays released Lucas on Tuesday. Lucas made five starts and one relief appearance for Toronto this season, putting up a 6.66 ERA and 23:12 K:BB over 24.1 innings. Per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, the left-hander is expected to sign with a team overseas, and the Blue Jays will now have an extra 40-man roster spot to work with.

Optioned to Triple-A

The Blue Jays optioned Lucas to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. Lucas has been roughed up for 18 runs over 24.1 frames with Toronto this season. He's being replaced on the roster and in the bullpen by Ryan Borucki.

Summoned back to big club

Toronto recalled Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. Lucas got into six MLB games (five as a starter) earlier this season, posting a 6.66 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB over 24.1 innings. He pitched very well over his past three Triple-A outings, allowing just one run with a 16:6 K:BB over 14.2 frames, and will now get another chance with the big club. Lucas will likely work out of the bullpen this time around, though, as he's taking the roster spot of fellow lefty Justin Bruihl, who was optioned to Buffalo in a corresponding move.
