Anderson will be sidelined for the entire 2026 season after undergoing surgery Jan. 13 to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports. Anderson suffered the injury Dec. 24, and he opted for surgery a few weeks later. Currently a free agent, Anderson expects to begin a throwing program by the summer or fall and hopes to sign with a team for the 2027 season. Injuries have sidetracked the career of the 27-year-old Anderson, who posted an 11.57 ERA over seven relief outings for the Angels in 2025.

Ian Anderson: Breaking News
Sticks in organization
Anderson cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Gwinnett. Anderson was designated for assignment Tuesday -- just two days after being claimed off waivers from the Angels. No other team was interested in bringing in the 26-year-old righty this time around, so he'll stay put at Triple-A Gwinnett. Anderson will be looking to rebound from a poor start in the majors after giving up 12 runs in only 9.1 innings during his time in Los Angeles.
DFA'd by Atlanta
Atlanta designated Anderson for assignment Tuesday. The right-hander was claimed off waivers over the weekend and didn't make an appearance before being dumped from the 40-man roster. Anderson was traded from Atlanta to the Angels just before the start of the regular season and posted an 11.57 ERA and 8:7 K:BB over 9.1 innings before being let go by Anaheim.
