Joseph Gerber: Everything you need to know

Gerber (finger) struck out two and allowed two hits over a scoreless inning during his rehab appearance Tuesday at Triple-A Syracuse. The right-hander took the hill for the second appearance of his assignment, after he previously tossed a scoreless frame for Single-A St. Lucie on Saturday. Gerber shouldn't require much more additional time in the minors to prove his health after landing on the injured list April 14 due to a blister, but his activation could be delayed nonetheless if the Mets don't have a spot available for him in the big-league bullpen.

The Mets placed Gerber on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right finger blister. Gerber struck out five batters across two shutout innings during his season debut Monday against the Dodgers, but a blister will now keep him sidelined for at least a couple of weeks. Austin Warren was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the open bullpen spot.

Making his first appearance since being added to the big-league roster Sunday, Gerber fired 31 of 47 pitches for strikes in an impressive performance for a Mets team that's looking for any kind of spark right now. The 28-year-old right-hander may have earned himself a longer look with the effort, but Gerber is likely to bounce between the Mets and Triple-A Syracuse all season as a lower-leverage option with a minor-league option remaining.
