Singleton agreed to a minor-league contract with the Astros on Tuesday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The first baseman elected to become a free agent after being designated for assignment by Houston last week, but he's returned to the organization on a minor-league deal. Singleton has appeared in just three big-league games this season but has seen plenty of action at Triple-A, posting a .224/.373/.451 slash line and slugging 16 homers in 73 contests.

Outrighted to Triple-A
Singleton cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Sugar Land. Singleton appeared in three games during his week-long stint with the Astros, going 1-for-9 at the plate. He'll officially remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed, and his .887 OPS at Sugar Land will keep him in consideration for a promotion if the Astros' bench depth is tested again later this season.
Dropped from 40-man roster
The Astros designated Singleton for assignment Monday. Singleton's stint with the big club lasted just one week, with the 33-year-old first baseman appearing in three contests and going 1-for-9 at the plate. Assuming Singleton clears waivers, he'll have the ability to elect free agency, though his familiarity with the Houston organization could compel him to accept an outright assignment to Triple-A Sugar Land with the hope of earning another look with the big club down the road.
