La Sorsa will remain in the Pittsburgh organization and will accept an assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis after going unclaimed off waivers Wednesday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. La Sorsa, who had attended Pirates camp on a minor-league deal, had an upward-mobility clause in his contract that allowed him to move on from the Pirates if another organization had claimed him off waivers and placed him on its Opening Day roster. However, after finding no suitors on the waiver wire, La Sorsa will stick around with the Pirates and likely serve as a high-leverage arm in the Indianapolis bullpen to begin the season.
La Sorsa plans to exercise the upward mobility clause in his minor-league contract with the Pirates after Pittsburgh reassigned him to minor-league camp Sunday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Though the left-hander was unable to secure a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen, he's believed to have other suitors interested in included him on the season-opening roster. La Sorsa tossed three scoreless innings in Grapefruit League play for the Pirates and was also a lockdown reliever for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic, striking out four of the 11 batters he faced in the tournament.
La Sorsa signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports. La Sorsa gave up eight earned runs in just 6.2 innings with the Reds in 2025, but he finished the minor-league season with a 2.59 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 48.2 innings in Triple-A. He'll get another chance to work his way back into the majors during spring training; otherwise, he'll help round out the bullpen at Triple-A Indianapolis.
