The Reds re-signed Staumont (undisclosed) to a minor-league contract Dec. 30. Staumont signed a minor-league deal with the Reds last offseason but wound up missing the entire season with an undisclosed injury. It's unclear what his current health status is. Staumont posted a 3.70 ERA but an ugly 18:14 K:BB over 24.1 innings for the Twins in 2024.
The Reds reassigned Staumont to minor-league camp Saturday. Staumont only made one appearance for the Reds this spring, during which he struck out two batters and walked one in a scoreless inning. He'll head to Triple-A Louisville to begin 2025, but he could still make a few appearances out of the Reds' bullpen after posting a 3.70 ERA in 24.1 innings last year for the Twins.
Staumont signed Tuesday with the Reds on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league spring training. Staumont split time between the Twins and Cubs organizations in 2024, making all 25 of his big-league appearances with the former club and submitting a 3.70 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 18:14 K:BB in 24.1 regular-season innings. He'll get the chance to compete for a middle-relief role in Cincinnati's Opening Day bullpen during spring training.
