Justin Garza: Everything you need to know

Garza elected to become a free agent Tuesday. The Mets outrighted Garza to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. He's no longer on the 40-man roster, but Garza will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 31-year-old has made five relief appearances with the Mets this season, yielding four runs with a 3:1 K:BB in 6.2 innings.

The Mets designated Garza for assignment Sunday. Garza has been with Triple-A Syracuse since July 23, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster Sunday to make room for Brandon Sproat, who'll be making his MLB debut. Assuming Garza clears waivers, he'll likely remain within the Mets organization. He's posted a 7.86 ERA in 26.1 innings with Syracuse this season.
