Justin Wilson: Breaking News

Mulling retirement

Wilson is considering retirement, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic report. The 38-year-old would consider returning only if he receives what he deems a fair contract for a World Series contender. Wilson is coming off a quality 2025 campaign with the Red Sox, having collected a 3.35 ERA and 57:20 K:BB over 48.1 regular-season innings. Boston is reportedly interested in re-signing the veteran lefty.

Escapes inherited jam

Wilson struck out all three batters he faced in a scoreless sixth inning during Saturday's 5-1 loss to Arizona. Wilson entered with two runners on and none out following starter Lucas Giolito. The lefty reliever recorded three straight strikeouts, including an eight-pitch punchout of pinch hitter Jordan Lawlar. Wilson has been effective out of Boston's bullpen, posting a 2.51 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with a 50:16 K:BB over 43 innings.

Earns win Monday

Wilson (2-0) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one over one scoreless inning to earn the win Tuesday against the Mets. Wilson entered for starter Hunter Dobbins with two outs in the fifth inning and runners at the corners. The lefty was brought in to face the switch-hitting Francisco Lindor, who hits righties (.893 OPS) much better than lefties (.574). The result was an epic 10-pitch at-bat that ended with Lindor's whiff on Wilson's eighth slider. The reliever's been quietly effective for the Red Sox, posting a 2.35 ERA over 15.1 innings and not allowing a run over his last nine appearances.
