Maxwell Schuemann: Breaking News

Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout, was caught stealing twice and committed an error in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Orioles. While Anthony Volpe was called up earlier in the day to replace Jose Caballero (finger) on the roster, it was Schuemann who got the nod at shortstop and batted eighth for the Yankees. Manager Aaron Boone has already indicated Caballero won't lose his starting job while on the IL, which could be a suggestion that Volpe won't see an everyday assignment in his return to the majors, but Schuemann didn't exactly put his best foot forward when given a chance. Since his own promotion in late April, Schuemann has gone 3-for-11 with two doubles and a 2:3 BB:K.

The Yankees recalled Schuemann from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Schuemann sports a .203/.362/.297 batting line with one home run, six stolen bases and a 16:16 BB:K in 23 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. He could be sent back down later this week if Anthony Volpe (shoulder) returns from the injured list.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday during an appearance on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that Schuemann will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take the roster spot of the injured Giancarlo Stanton (calf). Schuemann has slashed .203/.362/.297 with one home run, six stolen bases and a 16:16 BB:K in 23 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season. The utility player could be around for only a few days, as Anthony Volpe (shoulder) has a good chance to be activated from the injured list later this week.
