Schultz (1-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on a hit and a walk over five innings against the Athletics. He struck out six. Schultz was sharp in his second big-league start, limiting baserunners and tallying six strikeouts en route to his first win. Through 9.1 MLB innings, the 22-year-old owns a 3.86 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with a 10:5 K:BB, flashing the potential that has made him one of the most well-regarded left-handed pitching prospects in baseball. His next start is projected for Saturday against the Nationals, and it will be worth monitoring whether the White Sox allow Schultz to pitch deeper into games after he was pulled at 82 pitches Sunday.

Noah Schultz: Breaking News
Handed another start
Schultz is slated to start Sunday's game against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park. After being called up from Triple-A Charlotte earlier in the week, the 6-foot-10 lefty had an uneven MLB debut Tuesday against the Rays. Schultz recorded four strikeouts and induced five swinging strikes with a fastball that averaged 96.8 miles per hour over 4.1 innings, but the control problems that plagued him in the minors last season cropped up again, as he issued four walks. Though he'll have a good opportunity to add to his punchout total against an Athletics offense that owns the third-highest strikeout rate in the majors (25.7 percent) this season, pitching in a hitter-friendly environment in Sacramento will make him a risky lineup option for fantasy managers who are looking to protect their ratios.
Takes loss in major-league debut
Schultz (0-1) took the loss against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out four across 4.1 innings. The 22-year-old Schultz dominated across three outings (two starts) with Triple-A Charlotte, prompting the White Sox to call him up Tuesday for his major-league debut. The nerves appeared to get to the young southpaw early, as he gave up three runs (two earned) in the first inning before yielding another run in the fourth, though he managed to retire five of the last six batters he faced. It wasn't the major-league debut Schultz was hoping for, but he should see a few more turns in the rotation, at least until Jonathan Cannon (hip) is cleared to return from the 15-day injured list. Schultz is lined up to start against the Athletics this weekend.
