Syndergaard was released by the White Sox on Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Syndergaard signed a minor-league deal with Chicago in late June, but he will now become a free agent once again. The right-hander gave up nine runs on 10 hits and a walk, while striking out two batters over eight innings in two starts with Triple-A Charlotte. Syndergaard hasn't pitched in the majors since 2023, and he'll now look for another opportunity to revive his career elsewhere.

Gets minors deal from White Sox
Syndergaard agreed to a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Tuesday, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports. Syndergaard hasn't pitched professionally since 2023, when he posted a 6.50 ERA and 56:19 K:BB over 88.2 innings covering 18 starts for the Dodgers and Guardians. The 32-year-old is a longshot to contribute this season, but the rebuilding White Sox felt he was worth a roll of the dice on a minor-league deal. Syndergaard will report to Chicago's spring training complex in Arizona for now before eventually being assigned to a minor-league affiliate.
Still hoping for MLB comeback
Syndergaard has been working out at Kova Sports baseball training center in Texas as he prepares for a potential return to major league baseball, Pat Ragazzo of New York Mets on SI reports. Syndergaard, 32, hasn't appeared in the big league since August of 2023 and is "in the stages of getting comfortable with throwing at high intensity again" after losing 30 pounds earlier in the offseason. The right-hander is not ready to throw in front of scouts yet but plans to eventually hold a showcase in hopes of landing a contract.
