Patrick Corbin: Everything you need to know

Corbin (1-1) took the loss Wednesday as the Blue Jays fell 3-0 to the Rays, giving two runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out one. The veteran southpaw produced another solid performance, allowing two runs or fewer for a fifth straight start, but Corbin was stuck with his first loss of the year as the Toronto offense couldn't get anything going against Shane McClanahan and Tampa Bay's bullpen. Corbin's been a life preserver for the Jays' injury-depleted rotation, and he'll take a 3.60 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB through 30 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home early next week in a rematch with the Rays.

Corbin (1-0) picked up the win Friday against the Twins, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts across 5.1 innings. After getting hammered for four runs across four innings in his season debut against these same Twins back on April 10, Corbin has allowed just six runs across 20.2 innings in four starts. The 36-year-old has a plus slider but otherwise has banked on location rather than pure stuff in his 14th major-league season. Corbin has registered a 3.65 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB across 24.2 innings and should remain in the rotation while Shane Bieber (elbow), Max Scherzer (forearm/ankle) and Jose Berrios (elbow) work their way back from injuries.

Corbin did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. Corbin was solid early, holding Cleveland scoreless through four innings, but he ran into trouble in the fifth, when he allowed four hits before he was pulled with two outs in the frame. Since stepping into Toronto's injury-plagued rotation, Corbin has posted a 3.72 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB across four outings (19.1 innings). He's tentatively lined up to face the Twins on the road in his next start.
