Robert Refsnyder: Breaking News

Heads to paternity list

The Mariners placed Refsnyder on the paternity list Tuesday. The 35-year-old will step away from the team for a few days in order to be with his growing family. Refsnyder, who is hitless through 16 at-bats this season, can spend up to three days on the paternity list and is likely to be back with the Mariners for Friday's series opener versus the Rangers. Patrick Wisdom is taking his place on the big-league roster.

Inks $6.25M deal with Seattle

The Mariners signed Refsnyder to a one-year, $6.25 million contract Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Refsnyder slashed a robust .312/.407/.516 versus left-handed pitching during his four seasons with the Red Sox, and it should be against southpaws that he sees most of his playing time with the Mariners. He's capable of handling all three outfield spots, and while Refsnyder does have past infield experience, he hasn't played on the dirt regularly since 2017.

Not in lineup Thursday

Refsnyder is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Athletics. After starting each of the last two games against right-handed pitching (and four straight overall), the right-handed-hitting Refsnyder will retreat to the bench for Thursday's series finale against Athletics righty J.T. Ginn. Nate Eaton will play right field and bat eighth for Boston.
