Robert Wynns: Breaking News

Wynns will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Rangers. With Shea Langeliers handling one of the heavier workloads among all catchers this season, Wynns has seen sparse action through the first three weeks of the campaign. Wynns will be included in the starting nine Thursday for just the fifth time in the Athletics' first 19 contests.

Wynns (abdomen) signed a one-year contract worth $1.1 million with the A's on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Wynns was traded to the A's in early June, and he had a solid year in a reserve role by maintaining an .865 OPS across 110 plate appearances prior to suffering an abdominal strain. He's also a solid defender, so he should be a suitable No. 2 backstop behind Shea Langeliers in 2026.

The Athletics transferred Wynns (abdomen) to the 60-day injured list Monday. The move makes room on the Athletics' 40-man roster for Brady Basso (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day IL and optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Wynns landed on the 10-day injured list this past Tuesday due to an abdominal strain, and his move to the 60-day IL means the 34-year-old catcher will not be eligible to return in 2025. He appeared in 40 games between the Athletics (22) and Reds (18) this season and slashed .291/.321/.544 with six home runs and 21 RBI over 110 plate appearances.
